Summer of Cricket thread

Smithy just denied Beau his second.
And Lyon dropped a possible third Webster wicket.

Carey dropped a possible 4th standing up to the stumps, but it was really difficult. Cricket tragics off forum, reckon Healy or Paine would have caught it!

I'm sure that Webster has to be fielding in slips all the time. Can't have Usman as a close catcher and Webster fielding in the deep. Dropping catches in these positions can be crucial. The best fielders need to be in these slip positions.

Webster top scorer with 57 for the Aussies.

Left arm finger spinner, Kuhnemann, now playing for Tasmania in preliminary squad for Sri Lanka.

Selectors want spin in the opposite direction from Lyon.

Wickets so far from spinners in Shield - Kuhnemann 18, Swepson 17, Rocky 14, Murphy 12.

Bizarre if no West Aussies in squad, because they are dominating the Shield - or have when they've played Tassie!

Morning DC. WArriors have won the shield past three seasons. Expect more in coming years.
Yes without Green, Inglis may go to Sri Lanka while Hardie needs consistency. There are some good prospects at the rookie level tho, as I am a keen follower of WA underage cricket.

Good day, Baggers.

Can we chase 162 on this lively pitch?

It means a series win of the Border/Gavaskar Trophy. Plus qualification for World Test Final.

India win and they retain trophy.

One of the downsides of Facebook these days is a lot of advertising. However, I'm getting more wanted cricket and soccer content.

Apparently, there is a a lot of implosion and animosity in Indian cricket in the dressing rooms.

Ravi Ashwin's Dad says he was pushed out and had no option but to retire! Gave a big serve to Kohli, who he claims is a toxic influence in the dressing room.

Kontas using good intent, Labuchagne with a white ball shocker and Smith beaten by the pitches extra bounce. 91 runs to win.

Pull your head in Konstas.

FFS.

It's big boy cricket now.

BGT winners for first time in a decade and also defending WTC finalists.

Beau Webster hitting the winning runs must've gladdened you DC. The Slug from Snug, how unfortunate to be saddled with a nickname like that.

Well that is the end of our Summer of Cricket, goes too quickly. Still there is a female Ashes Test in a week or so.

He had the correct idea to throw off India with aggression, but mistimed the shot. Trav Head has always plays like that. What about Marnus' shocker. Needs a good kick up the bum. Luckily it did not cost us.
I agree Sammy K is at times going to end up with egg on his face the way he plays, but his absolute conviction in whatever method he chooses based on the problem in front of him will hold him in good stead long term. I think his presence has already relieved some run scoring burden off Uzzie comparatively to McSweeney. And he made it hard for India to settle and catch up to the game contributing to the highest scoring first few overs in Australian test history! 0-35 off 3 overs.

The alternative is a shot like Marnus' which clearly was a nothing shot without any conviction from someone who is struggling to decide what kind of batter he wants to be.

Really felt like it was an incredible series with brilliant theatre throughout between no doubt two of the best cricket teams in the world.

The lads will be celebrating hard tonight after a well deserved 3-1 series victory that likely would have been 4-1 without a bit of rain and who knows the scoreline without Jasprit!

As an Aussie cricket lover I don't think a test summer has ended up going so well after it really did look like it may turn it to a bit of a car crash after Perth. Turns out the boys were just underdone and got into their work brilliantly after that.

Sammy K should and likely will be a generational batter who I already feel has captured the imagination of so many and hopefully will bringing others to the game to show them you can bat however you want if it is effective. The coaching books only teach one way of batting but everyone has their own method. Also love the impact Beau has had and a nice little reminder of the effectiveness of Shield cricket being a good breeding ground for test level cricketers.

Agree the Summer of Cricket always goes too quick but only 24 days until the first test starts in Sri Lanka so will be here before we know it. Will be interesting to see now if that series is used to try and even blood a few younger newer players seeing as though the WTF Final is secured....hmm will be interesting.

Good win in the end. Inconsistent bounce contributed to 2 Aussie wickets. India were down their main bowler and ran out of juice in the end.

Aussie captaincy was great today, India needed to give their 2 quicks a rest earlier.

Overall 3-1 or even 3-2 is a fair reflection of the series.

Bumrah deserved man of the series, if he was right to bowl today the game would have been a lot closer.

Webster was the find of the series for us, with good bowling by Boland, Cummins and Stark.

2 important scores of 40 by Cummins in Melbourne.

Head best with the bat followed by Smithy

Konstas looks like a prospect, but has to work on a few things.

I'm not sure that we win this match with Marsh playing instead of Webster, right move at the right time or perhaps a test or 2 later than it should have been done.

Cummins, Boland and Webster stood up when it counted.

beau webster hitting the winning runs is quite a story!
Probably our best team a year or 2 from now has both him and green in it, so two all rounders.

Konstas in the first innings
- He again is a little late in his initial movement and shot. You could argue that his dismissal in the second innings could also be about being beaten for pace. At youth level an express bowler might hit high 120s. It can be a bit of an adjustment the extra pace at senior level. He should just focus on playing a lot of cricket at all forms of the game. Another thing is he probably tries to drive that ball a bit too hard so he can't adjust. Steve smith gets an almost identical ball a few overs later and plays it late (different to being late) and hits it a bit softer so he can adjust to the movement and gets 3 runs
- I like the advancing and ramp shots, it can get a catcher to move to the outfield and he often plays conventionally when the field is spread. However, I'd like to see him rotate the strike with a drop and run shot. The best openers have this shot in their arsenal and it can just diffuse the tension and break the bowlers momentum. Bowlers like to bowl as many deliveries as they can to one bowler. If batting conditions are tough that drop and run shot, or the soft hands to the in field to rotate the strike can really manage your way through it

We were discussing 2 alrounders today, Webster or Green batting 5 seems like a stretch, but might be possible,

I not sure how much longer Lyon is going to play or who can replace him as the main spinner.

Most likely path to both playing regularly is Green bowling well enough to be the no 3 pace bowler.

Webster used to bowl off-spin.

Taking both in most touring teams is a no brainer, can cover an injury to a bowler or batsman at short notice.

Playing Webster and Green would mean a strong fielding side.

Both Boland and Webster deserve more opportunities.

I think green has the highest average in first class of all gen next? So with an aging squad probably have to play him somewhere. Maybe he can open in place of Khawaja?
