Summer of Cricket thread

I literally only get at night to logon and have a look after working all day and dinner and kids to bed etc.

Do we maybe want to consider an 'Australian cricket' thread which can cover all mens and womens format teams? To try and drum up as much interest and engagement as possible? Or could do 'Baggygreens' just for test cricket? Just thoughts.
On Whirlpool they have these threads:

* International cricket thread

* Aus home Test season

* BBL

* Domestic Shield season

* Women's cricket

* Baggy Green general discussion.

* Any Aus Test overseas tours.

It is a huge cricket forum. There are many posters.

PROPOSED TWO-DIVISION TEST CRICKET STRUCTURE

Division 1:
South Africa, Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Sri Lanka, Pakistan

Division 2: West Indies, Bangladesh, Ireland, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe

Promote two more AM nations for D2. If it gives more minnows a pathway into Test cricket I am 100% in favor.

Would have thought Windies were worthy of Div 1? They beat us in a home Test.

Indian fans are the worst. After the game they were saying that Konstas was antagonising and causing problems. They just can never accept defeat well.
They always play the victim card, when in actual fact they sledge and constantly make derogatory comments.

As spectators Indian fans really create a festive atmosphere at games live.

Amongst the many Indian fans I've met, both in India, and all round the world, to their credit they show a massive amount of interest in and have knowledge of players from other countries.

Many fans are much more focused on their own country's players.

Before the Sandpapergate incident in South A, the Australian team were known as the worst sports in world cricket. We were known as the Ugly Australians.

It shocked players like Michael Hussey when he played IPL, how the same view was held by players from all other countries. The worst sledger in world cricket was Matt Hayden.

I'm glad to see the change for the better under Tim Paine and Pat Cummins.

Presuming they pick a 15 man squad I'd go with:
Konstas
Khawaja
Marnus
Smith (c)
McSweeney
Webster
Marsh
Inglis
Carey
Connolly (prob should pick another spinner here but developing Connolly's spin in these conditions instead is prob more valuable)
Boland
Lyon
Richardson
Murphy
Kuhnemann
Connolly, Richardson and Inglis have played little red ball cricket in recent seasons. They aren't match-fit in red ball cricket.

Both Labu and Usman's mid 20 averages for Tests over this year and the last few years aren't good enough, but I think I'd take Usman for his experience. I'd prefer him as captain to Smith.

Handscomb has played a lot of red ball cricket. Can be back up keeper too. Has performed playing spin well on the subcontinent.

Handscomb ( reserve keeper)
CA has lost the plot. Handscomb has never toured Sri Lanka. And when did he last keep if chosen ahead of Josh Inglis as reserve keeper? While Maxwell keeps getting wheeled out every time there is a sub cont tour as he did score a ton there many years ago.

No he has not DC. Like I wrote, he has never toured Sri Lanka. Averages a poor @26 in India with his only decent score against Bangladesh way back in 2017. Josh Philippe is younger and has proven he can master sub cont spinners on their soil. But looks to have been ignored. Sure I read that Tim Paine was plugging for Josh Philippe to tour too.

Doesn't help that their commentators do the same too. Sunil was full of complaining this tour but never called out on it. BCCI run the ICC like a cabal.

Ok Pasquali has spoken guys. All Aussie cricket on this one thread.

Australia squad for Sri Lanka Tests: Steve Smith (c), Sean Abbott, Scott Boland, Alex Carey, Cooper Connolly, Travis Head (vc), Josh Inglis, Usman Khawaja, Sam Konstas, Matt Kuhnemann, Marnus Labuschagne, Nathan Lyon, Nathan McSweeney, Todd Murphy, Mitchell Starc, Beau Webster

Four surprises, McSweeney, Connolly and Abbott picked, Handscomb omitted. Biggest with Sweeny back, tells me Bailey was shamed into an embarrassing back flip.

I'm happy to see Mcsween get another chance, but the Heat are going to suffer big time with those loss of players.

Looking at the team I think I’ve read Abbott has played 2 Sheffield Shield games this season - out of 6 played.

Did Abbott play 2 Aus A games against India?

At his best he has lacked stamina, watching him at Bellerive a lot. Effective with new ball, but IMO other bowlers have outbowled him in Shield.

A poor choice! I’ll be telling George B next time I see him!

Inglis and CC haven’t played enough red ball cricket. Don’t like this back door of using One Day team in white ball to select red ball Test players.

At least CC is young though.

Surely T20 cricket, where bowlers bowl 4 overs and batters slog for a few overs takes a back seat to the Aus Test team, Zimbos?

It does, but it does also suck as a Heat fan. Not sure what is happening but Khawja and Marnus finished the test on Sunday, but are only available for the 16th Jan Heat game. Not even the one this Saturday.

If you have having these big name players as part of your promo and as the main people to come watch, they need to play more than 1 game.
