First win over Sri Lanka on their soil in almost 14 years.

Warnie will be in heaven about to crack open a bottle of champers/beer and puffing on two cigs at once over a hot poker hand, saying ''I did you again Murali''..

Very professional performance, well prepared and most of the team played very well.

We now have players that can play well in subcontinent conditions.

Next time we tour India, it will be interesting to see what kind of pitches they prepare, and how the games go.

DC you remember fellow off spinners Ashley Mallet and Bruce Yardley, well betting had either of them played same # of Tests as Nathan Lyon in same era that they'd too be looking at 550 Test wickets. All three had similar ability imo, just that Rowdy and Roo were only given a fraction of Tests that were given to Lyon.
Rowdy and Roo were both good bowlers, Richie.

Australia with another easy win. Terrible by Sri Lanka.
We haven't won in SL since 2011, TSF.

2016, SL won 3-0.

2022, it was a drawn series 1-1.

We might have been better prepared this time. A hard fought 5 Test series against world powerhouse, India, might have prepared Aus better. Albeit the Aus pitches were conducive to pace bowling, instead of the spin friendly series in SL.

India are formidable opposition at home.

How far has Neil-Smith fallen since his long injury last year. Has lost his impeccable line/length and penetration and to be brutally honest he now looks run of the mill calibre.
N-S has lost a bit in a short period of time, Baggers.

He took a screamer of a slips catch today.

Just returned from a Tas Cricket Members piss up to celebrate the series victory over SL! There are some excellent craft beer drinkers amongst the members!

I thought the series was played in a very good spirit. Players constantly smiled at each other and shared jokes. Galle is such a scenic ground. Most of us in Tas Members love spin from both ends. Conversely, today we watched Shield cricket, live, on a pace dominant pitch.

We had the SL series on TV, whilst we simultaneously watched the Shield game live.

For Aus just saw the batting averages for the 2 test SL series.

Usman topped the run aggregate. I think Smith was next and Carey was third. All scored a lot of runs.

With the wicket aggregates, Kuhnemann took 16 wickets, Lyon 14.

Smith was awarded player of the series. Usman scored more runs, plus Carey kept well too. Hard to pick the best player for series?

Last season's Queensland left arm finger spinner who was languishing in Brisbane grade cricket, Matt K, topped the bowling. I want to find out what we think was a deal done, to move Matt K to Tas, with what we think was collaboration amongst the top echelons of Crick Aus and Cricket Tas? It has helped Tas Cricket and Aus Cricket, as Matt K was instrumental in Aus beating SL.

A few of us in Tas Members think Labu should be dropped, despite the majority wanting to retain him. In the small run chase, it is the best I've seen him bat for some time. I still think the younger Konstas, or McSweeney, are better long term prospects.

Saw scintillating Shield cricket on a pace friendly pitch at Bellerive today.

Victoria were dismissed a few run s in front on a pace friendly wicket. Tas has a real find in Launceston 18 yo, Aiden O'Connor. He bowls pace well, bats well and is a superb fielder.

Handscomb batted well from the moment he arrived at the crease. Left handers Nixon and Rogers played some classy, hard hit pulls.

Bell bowled about 23 overs for 33 runs, taking 3 wickets. Impressive! Accurate and generates moderate pace with minimal effort. O'Connor looked good early, but got smacked around later in his spells.

I think Tas were about 1-30 casing the Vic lead at stumps.

Josh Philippe is another terrific destroyer of a well planned spin attack. He and Inglis are very similar. I do think tho Philippe is the superior defender, as you also need a solid defense to be a good spin player. The best will always judge the length better than others and if tossed up will meet the ball with an an angled bat to smother the spin. Gotta say super quick footwork then a lofted drive over the bowlers head excites me like few other cricket strokes. Philippe does it to perfection, Inglis and Carey are a close second.
I've seen Philippe destroy a few Tas attacks!

Just caught second session of Tas v Vic at Bellerive in Shield.

Tas 2 - 102 on a seaming pitch when I arrived. It was 6 - for about 150 when I left.

Only bright spot was 18 year old debutant, O’Connor, from Launceston. Looks to have a big future with 10 NO. His off drive is reminiscent of Will Pucovski.
Told you this kid was impressive with a wide array of skills. 53 on debut and only he and Ward looked assured with the willow. You did not see his swing ability but I can assure you he has it, fast and late in and out swing. Had perfect conditions with the overcast yesterday to swing it but preferred to seam it, prob under orders.

In summation Smith and Carey’s big tons were outstanding.
Won us the series. The Lankan spinners had no answer with Smithy battening down the hatches while Alex scored almost at a run a ball. Perfect combo. I saw very few false shots. Incredible batting given the conditions. Also drew two awards, Carey MOM and the LEGEND MOS.
