The Ange at Tottenham Thread

He needs to beat Wolves and Newcastle at home first or he wont make it to the transfer window.

I thought Spurs played better last night, was quite a good game, first goal was going to be massive, both teams had their chances.

A loss at home to Wolves and it wont matter how well they play, results will dictate that it's over.

Is Ange to blame for their insane injury list?

I mean they go into Wolves without any centre backs. They either have to use central midfielders or go to the youth team.

I’m not sure I’ve ever seen that before in top flight football.

But is Ange to blame. If he is, then sacking is the answer. If not, then sacking is far more complicated.

Surely the club take a more holistic view instead of this current snapshot in time.

For how long though? They haven't had consistent form for about 14-15 months now. If they drop to 14th by new years, most clubs in the league would sack the manager. Levy is tight, so he may not.

The injuries surely aren't his fault, but now those results they didn't get early in the season really hurt. The Leicester and Newcastle games where Spurs dominated and didnt win, then the Brighton game was a disaster.

They have to beat Wolves with Newcastle(h) and Arsenal (a) to come after that.

squad management and injury reduction are on the manager

we know Ange wants his teams to press for 90 minutes and trains the same way

its just not sustainable at the top level when other teams have the skill level to play through it causing further exhaustion

Could get a job with mono effnic at the kebab shop...

That's not Mono. He'd be wearing a blue shirt.

All 4 centre backs out. Sure clubs get injuries but it's a hefty one here. Levy is the issue, he can't see the long term. A fit squad who know the system perfectly will succeed.

He may not be to blame for the injuries, although several were rushed back and re-injured, so that's on someone at the club.

But surely in this situation you are looking to the manager at what he can do to protect his young defence. In the Chelsea and Liverpool games he changes nothing and gets into an end to end shootout which left them so exposed and was just suicide.

Surely he should be trying to get through this tough period by scrapping as many points as possible. It's like he has just conceded they have injuries so will be losing these games regardless and it's not his fault.

We all know whether it's the managers fault or not, they always get sacked when the results get bad enough in the EPL (or any Euro league).

I remember when he was NT manager that even though he was quite stubborn (particularly at the end of his tenure), he was quite tactically malleable, possibly because of the assistant coaches he had at the time (I found Milicic to be quite a good student of the game).

Ange during the NT tenure played 4-3-3 / 3-5-2 and variations of each depending on the opposition and personnel available.

I’m not sure how much input Jedinak & Monty have on game day but even though Monty was successful with CCM, he failed in Scotland and really should be nowhere near a Premier League dugout. That appointment is on Ange I believe.

A manager is only as good as his assistant coaches. Sir Alex had two of the best in the biz in Queiroz & Meulensteen.

Sports science is continually discovering better ways of avoiding injury and faster recovery.

It cannot be ruled out that a club's management and medical know-how have at least some responsibility in the massive frequency of injuries at Spurs for 2 years under Ange.

What about Ange making players play a fast-paced high press game, without adequate physical conditioning from knowledgeable strength and fitness coaches? High injury rates don't always happen by chance, bearing in mind this is two years in a row.

For instance, if you are constantly getting injured, whereas a person who does the same level of activity doesn't get injured, it sometimes comes down to knowledge and know-how to preserve oneself from injury and sickness.

I recall the Honduras away game was a complete diversion from his tactics where he focused on long ball game utilising Irvine.

No matter the sport science and analysis paralysis over kill every body is diff the way it reacts and some are injury prone more than others despite the copious amount of intel.

I find this re Ange funny tbh for the great Klopp introduced the fully charged high intensity pressing long before Ange and injuries were blamed as well.
Salah has hardly missed a game or bad injury over 8yrs for eg whereas another player would get one and o it’s Klopp’s high pressing 90mins tactics.
Gtfo - it’s just bad luck for these precious very very well looked after Pro players.
You can’t avoid a ankle roll over let alone a hammy tear or a tackle that went wrong.

What he lacks is quality depth full stop period to cover key positions.

Ange tried to poach John Kennedy from Celtic but he refused to follow him to Tottenham. The only staffer Ange brought to Celtic was Harry Kewell and we've seen how ineffectual he's turned out to be. Ange likes to have mates from Australia around him because they back him.

The one thing I’ve never heard Ange talk about in depth is tactics.

Not saying he doesn’t know it, but it’s odd to not see even a discussion about tactics from him in all the interviews he’s done with media.

Tactical masterclass that was. Honduras weren't much and we should've scored at least 1. Luongo and Jedinak really controlled the game too.

I have no idea how injuries were at Celtic or Yokohama. Maybe the players are also more injury prone. It seems at least his Yokohama squad was very well managed. Celtic had a decent amount of depth.

I agree with the calls for bringing in the reserve or youth centre backs. Incredibly raw but it's that or Gray. I don't get how Gray can even be considered for an emergency centre back role.

Rumours afoot in Turkish media that former Dortmund manager Terzic is waiting in the wings to take the Spurs job.

Won’t be long before it does the rounds in the British press.
