The Ange at Tottenham Thread

Lol, but it's a shit show. Let's be honest.

That Villa game they were so disjointed, the pressing was all over the shop.

This is giving me Ange at U17 level vibes.
Yeah I dont blame you .... I think the excuses regarding injuries are starting to wear thin .... Had enough on the park to make the game competitive.... Son and Kulu both looked absolutely cooked.... If, when 3-4 players do get back, season doesn't turn around I would be surprised if he doesn't get canned.... or jumps himself.

Genuine question though…

Do you think going into it Ange thought he’d be at the level, or was he looking for one last big pay day before retirement.

His stock was pretty high at Celtic.

I think his stock is still pretty high with the ownership at Spurs.... Fanbase is understandably dismayed by results but will start singing those crappy terrace songs in his name if the tide turns... like all fanbases around the world to be fair.

You say like all fanbases, but this Spurs one are an incredibly fickle bunch for a club that’s had little success on the field.

This is elite analysis.

I remember Guus when he came into mgmt of the NT that he commented we played in a "too excited" manner. I imagine he was referring to this:

I agree very interesting stats and analysis. Are you saying though that Spurs football is 'too excited'? And what does Ange's style of football have to do with Guus' time with NT when from where I'm sitting Ange has played a brand of football in contrast to most other of our NT coaches at most levels.

As much as I love the man, of course it is a results based business and every manager is judged as results as their currency. But even considering the stats above, if Ange had the squad of Man City/Liverpool/Arsenal/Chelsea is he then able to consistently play his style of football? Even without players that good even if the squad was the same size as these other clubs the level of rotation would potentially counteract the injury issue.

Is it that his style is the issue or the simple fact that Spurs have a wafer thin squad for the current scheduling demands of the current day? Definitely probably a bit each way but we can't knock a bloke who has the success that he has had and expect him to revert to some other way of playing.

O'Leary, Allardyce, Pulis...these blokes had long managerial careers but you know what they never won a bloody thing. I just don't get people expecting him to play some other way. No one has ever expected a striker to have a go at playing defensive mid!

Fair points you raise.

The “too excited” part comes from a lack of cohesion/staying compact. Ange’s teams tend to do lots of vertical runs as did Farina’s NT before Guus took over hence the comment.

Regarding the wafer thin squad at Spurs, I’m not sure what Ange was expecting working under Levy. He hates paying compensation to break contracts and hates to pay high wages. Levy has consistently had one of the lowest wage to revenue ratios in the league.

From my understanding Ange left Celtic because he wanted to progress them in Europe next season and their ownership were not willing to spend the money to flesh out the squad.

Then he jumped the ship to Tottenham to work under an even bigger tight arse. Maybe Ange should have done his due diligence.
