The Australian Championship Thread

Hey guys! I was on this podcast (Neal) and yeah it definitely seems like FQ are somewhat warming up to what's going on at the moment - by the way love this forum, I do look at it quite a lot and the former FTBL forum did come in very handy when researching for the NPL Victoria commentary games!
I wonder who the target audience for the broadcast / presentation will be? Theres no point gearing it solely towards the fans of the teams (we are going to watch anyways), are they going to try to appeal to A-League fans or that 'untapped' market of football fans that don't already follow the NPL(S) or the A-League.

The untapped market ?
Be it anything how does a marketing campaign gain interest of neutrals or the countless ones who only would venture to a Roos and Tildas game due to the bigger publicity.
The untapped market to me is similar to any other general advertised sport that I really have no intention at all going.
I could in conversation with friends oh yer that would be ok to see but I’ll never bother anyway.
Am I coming across as the untapped consumer ?
Think so shrug shoulders.
The market is the current regulars followers, the fam relos good friends and general word of mouth.
In time IF it does build and gain better exposure could bring in more from local Club land for eg…..

The 'untapped market' I had in mind are people (some who I know personally) who don't follow the a-league because there is no pro / rel.

If you remember James Johnson did say at the NST presser in November last year that the NST would be included in the FA broadcast package (now with 10), but it desperately needs mainstream exposure

yep ok get that..
It's not specifically not having P/R as well, many fellow football mates and ethnic background relos etcetc just have NO interest in APL period.
So so many of our relos are into football, kids/gran kids play, Dad's/sons/then the knock off effect amongst close friends/fellow team mates etcetc....
My own 2 sons with above be it relos/football mates have ventured to APL derbies but most are com si com sa about it - purely for the packed stad atmosphere and night out before epl :)
They prefer going to SO/APIA/SU.
The moment they started hearing on NSD/T (yer not from years back but of late) one son said they are hitting those games.
This IMO is the massive untapped market looking ahead, its there.
Shame its not H/A coming up but maybe when hell freezes over :(

I really hope we see H/A after 2-3 seasons, but I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't. It might depend on who is coming in after JJ goes.

yes having the 3 main caps going all in would show some hope for us supporters but as I've mentioend I won't hold my breath, won't be back to type responses haha

If FQ are actually warming to the idea hopefully a handful of Brisbane teams (Strikers, City, Lions, Olympic) would bid and potentially even GCK.

Im not sure it does mate.... The Aleague is for the "Mainstream" Im guessing the FA will be pursuing a much more football specific audience for the NST.

Easier to market and appeal too, and they already understand what is at stake and what promotion and relegation means....

erogenouszone, Bravo buddy, yer it good agree ! haven't ventured to the Palace lately, you just reminded me Glenardo is MIA from the old forum being a devout Stallions man.
Hope he's spotted the sticky thread.
Same applies for one of my sons best mate greek fam we know well, they head to Belmore, they just luv the ol atmosphere and souvlaki pre game.
We were there year or so back and they have the HT entertainment band playing all the classic greek songs in the main grandstand, MSC would be dancing like Zorba ! and got to say I enjoy it just as much.

There were enough clubs interested, but some didn’t make the cutoff based on the rules set on money, stadiums etc. I assume many more clubs would be interested in the NSD if money wasn’t an issue.
So, ponder this; the NRL and our government are looking to fork out $600,000,000 to fund a team in PNG.

That would fund the NSD for decades. Why no govt support for NSD?
Why no FA support for a true NSD? Instead wasting money on "NPL on planes super league"?

Haven’t we been through all this….move on . It is what it is.
How about some constructive criticism.🤫
I would love to be able to be constructive, but this feels no better than:
“Hey guys, I know we said we were going to have a proper comp … but are any of you up for a bit of a kick around tourney after the proper season finishes?

Lawrie McKinna who is Sydney Olympic CEO this evening joined The Global Game program this evening after Football Australia confirmed announcement late last week of a champions league model NSD to be held late 2025.

Lawrie dropping a few club names putting their hand up for NST: Adelaide City, Heidelberg, Melbourne Knights, and a Perth club!
Also said another meeting in a month or so about the third RFP.
Apparently the guarantee has been paid to FA and the clubs are paying interest on the $500k! Jesus that's insane. I though a guarantee was just that, no an actual transfer of funds.
