The Australian Championship Thread

Okay so what was wrong with the Socceroos prior to the golden generation?

Youth never got a chance in the NSL?

could of been a number of factors, you could argue the progression path to qualifying was a lot harder. Unlucky results against Iran that we should of won. etc.

the youth structure was a lot better with the colts IMO, and we had a lot of younger players playing in the NSL. but thats a conversation for another time.

you came into this thread not giving this competition a chance, and no doubt you will get push back from the "NSL Bitters"

TBH, i dont really know if this Australian Championship will work. It seems just like a Glorified Champions League for the NPL clubs, or summer soccer competition, but its a start.
Is there a fear factor that its played in summer and it might effect your crowds in the A-League?

anyways, you have your mickey mouse competition, and we'll have ours.

southoftheyarra how can you even thumb up this comment up.
It makes no sense and is not accurate whatsoever.

As libelous quotes :
To you it may be just a name change but to me there are many differences in the way the organisation is run.
The Lowry run FFA was happy for others to run football where as FA, particularly under James Johnson, has a ‘hands on’ approach. That is a huge difference.

Since the FA/JJ, APL runs it own and the FA run the rest of FOOTBALL in the country as known.
They are NOT the same as pre FFA under Lowy thats for bloody sure as Shark thinks.
IF it was we wouldn't be going down the road as JJ has been persisting with and Thank Christ for him even though its taking time time time.
He knows we need to get the place in order and moving forward.
Sorry mate just got a little trigger happy liking peoples comments!

they dont. Only in the last year or two they are promoting it more.

Since the inception of the AL, its all about the bum on seats, Marquee players, youth never got a chance.

and now it shows within the national team, as we pick players if there great grand-father might be australian.
In fairness, Australia have qualified every time since the inception, won an Asian Cup and reached the round 16. Ask someone that before the 2005 and they would of laughed at you mad.

The A-league academies finally maturing which is great. Some real business happening, some real quality developing. We somehow didn’t get relegated playing a bunch of 17-18 years old last year.

Don’t get me started, clubs buying clubs. No pro/rel until for the foreseeable future. Historic clubs getting moved around. Mexico has always been a circus when it comes to their league.
Cartel laundering money into the clubs.

I'm just a little concerned about FA grouping federations together to save on travel costs. This is just a wee tournament and they're already penny pinching for this?? If they're worried about the cost of this, it doesn't give me much faith for a full season.

I would've thought putting on the best product with a legit draw would've been more attractive to fans and sponsors, not a manufactured lumping together of teams by distance. Anyway... it bugs me, it's overly miserly.

Christ the old long bow came out.
Clutching hard there but alas not much other ammo to use.
Something good for the game below and others want to dig for what, like others don’t want the game to grow for the better.

...hmmmmmm yeah I get your point, not overy cicnerned though, maybe its at the clubs behest also? Can't imagine a Perth club woudl want to fly to TAS, NNSW and then Brisbane at the endo the season for a tournament they may not even be involved in in 2026?
