The Australian Championship Thread

I'm just a little concerned about FA grouping federations together to save on travel costs. This is just a wee tournament and they're already penny pinching for this?? If they're worried about the cost of this, it doesn't give me much faith for a full season.

I would've thought putting on the best product with a legit draw would've been more attractive to fans and sponsors, not a manufactured lumping together of teams by distance. Anyway... it bugs me, it's overly miserly.
HG, I’m sure the FA know better than you and me.
All I see is the mother keeping things under control for the best.

could of been a number of factors, you could argue the progression path to qualifying was a lot harder. Unlucky results against Iran that we should of won. etc.

the youth structure was a lot better with the colts IMO, and we had a lot of younger players playing in the NSL. but thats a conversation for another time.

you came into this thread not giving this competition a chance, and no doubt you will get push back from the "NSL Bitters"

TBH, i dont really know if this Australian Championship will work. It seems just like a Glorified Champions League for the NPL clubs, or summer soccer competition, but its a start.
Is there a fear factor that its played in summer and it might effect your crowds in the A-League?

anyways, you have your mickey mouse competition, and we'll have ours.

I never said I ain't giving this comp a chance.

I said I don't like the format, just like the initial 8 clubs who said they want a home and away season.

You keep saying "yours/ours", isn't the entire point of this competition to unite football at all levels from the top down you clown?

football in this country hasnt been united for 20+ years, and dont think some Champions League NPL competition, will change that.

what about the hundreds of investors now hammering the door down to be let in? How do they feel about it?

Poor APL must be exhausted sorting through all the applications for new franchises...

Why did Hellas continue to apply, knowing full well they'd continue to be turned down?

Looks like they were keen to apart of the franchise system?

and right up to 2018 so was I (and many, if not most, other fans) The Aleague was (back then) the only conceivable top football division in the country and as a football fan all you want is your club to play to the highest level they can ... now thats not the case anymore. A new path has opened with a Football federation that has finally shaken of the obsessive greed of the past (FFA AND NSL greed btw) and wants to build a proper football world here, one that is based on empowering clubs to be ambitious.... I dont even care if Hellas bombs spectacualrly this year, and even gets releggated when thats a thing, the fact that we can, on sporting merit, climb back up is all we ever wanted.....

I know you (and sorry this isnt a personal attack) may not understand what it means to a whole community of people heavily invested in a club to want that but just, for a small second, watch what it does to little clubs all around the country once the whole thing is up and running.....

exactly right...... what ELSE is a football club meant to do but STRIVE to reach the top level, even when we have been locked away by the "mainstream non effnik new football purists" for 20 years?....

These clubs were already at the top level. Why was nobody willing to step in and save the league and clubs?

Can you show me these hundreds of investors please ?

You already know i am in favour of two divisions. I only worry about the costs involved and whether the smaller clubs can sustain it. No more, no less.

To that clown, the A league is Mickey mouse until his team gets accepted in to it, then it will become a major league.
Id normally say welcome to the "true roots" football part of the forum, but if im not mistaken wasnt it you that was chastizing 'old football' ppl from commenting on the Aleague?? Yet you got offended when you got called out for being a hypocrite, and now your here to prove it!

Pretty excited to see how it turns out.

- more football
- more chance for other youth talents to be in a professional environment.

I love what sydney, western and city have been doing recently playing alot of young guns. Granted it's probably based on the availability of money but the more youngsters that get a chance the better for us and our NT.

Finally and maybe one day. If teams want to try get promoted they should be allowed to do so. That's the beauty of football. The highs and the lows.

Bring it on
