World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

to think if we took one of our chances on thursday we would have a chance to go 6 points ahead in our group....in any case, big chance tonight
Sickening. 2 cycles already have I sat on the sofa or gone for walks running the numbers through my head. Had hoped for a much lighter campaign this time around. The points dropped by Saudi is immense and Indonesia are never a pot 6 team. Uzbekistan cruising and the Qatar loss was totally avoidable.

Hahaha what a finish. The last 20 minutes were great. Poor bloody ref was busy as.

When he blew full time you could see in his face and body language, he was like 'thank god that's over'.

Fantastic commentator by the way.

Nice to see Hubner suspended for our game. Lots of yellows. Any other suspensions?
I wonder if they’ll be able to rescind on a procedural error (unless he’d be suspended for just one yellow regardless)

well we are playing like dog$h%t, yet still second with a game in hand.

Other games just keep falling our way!

A win tonight and we are in a solid position..

To think Saudi won China away a man down with lädt minute stuff. Otherwise they've been very poor and it shows how vitals wins are in this group.

Wins are everything but a bit of GD boosting wouldn't hurt. If we can go to Saudi needing a 5:0 loss then we'll certainly lose 4:0 for good measure...

hopefully Japan can do us one more favour and we can get a lead on them the next few games
Even with rotation Japan will be strong not to mention the battles for making the WC squad. Massive step needs to be taken by ourselves tonight.

Such a pain needing many tabs of individual games to check yellows. Is there any source with a list? Anyway, Indonesia have had so many yellows. Jenner got his 3rd tonight and had served a suspension. Hübner's first of the game was his second so he's out for Australia and also big is striker Oratagoen got his second yellow. Plenty of others on single yellows.

I feel like even we put out the best players in A league + Souttar & Burgess and go all out to attack we should be able to beat the Saudi at home. Saudi Arabia defence and offence was terrible tonight.

Palestine 1-1 South Korea half time
Even live table they're way ahead.

Looking back at 2010 we got our wins but the draws and reverse wins amongst the group helped a lot.

But, draw Uzbekistan and Bahrain away and it would've taken a little longer. Qatar away 0:0 was when we qualified.

Yeah, if we actually went for it the chances would come. It's been ages since we've seen players be greedy or play direct. I think part of it is also mental and the fear of going against the coach's wishes. Surely Popovic isn't saying people should hold back but the system means people are often isolated up top.

Their group is easier imo though as they were a pot 1 team. They missed Indonesia (pot 6), Uzbekistan, Saudi (pot 3) and Australia (pot 2). I doubt they would be so ahead in our group if they were to replace Japan.

Hopefully next window
