World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

Is it just me or is debuting at these stadiums such as GC and Optus just adding to a jinx? Had bad feelings the moment GC was announced. I'll be on Australia for during the Japan game and had booked Sydney hotels and was very sure the Olympic stadium would host it. I'll be cancelling all that and just watching at home in Erina. It'll save some money but also a bit of sanity. Had this been announced earlier I may have flown to Perth first.
Erina? Send me a pm when you're home and we'll catch up for a beer.

This Optus stadium can make it rectangular for soccer & rugby. I've never seen they do it even on special event like A league GF. What's the point of having this feature?

Sounds like they'll only do it if there's added demand for said event.

Gulf Cup starting today. Squad chemistry wise we just can't compete with the AFC having all these regional tournaments to test again and again.

It may not matter all that much but compared to our having no time together and then 2 days in camp an A international shows the unfortunate smash and grab nature of international football.

Langerak coming back is inevitable. Watch him do well at Victory and then be picked in March. I don't disagree with it at all and it's the other's fault for not getting game time. Izzo will unfairly make way.

Not sure how this qualifies as rectangular but they are selling the drop in seats for the Japan game according to the seating map. I'm in section 345 for the game. They look OK on the map but I've never been to the ground before so don't know. I suspect dynamic pricing is in place because tickets in that section (the few that were left when I last looked) are nearly double what I paid now.

Welcome Alex

Yeah, I wouldn't classify it as a 'rectangular' setup either, but just a way to fill in some space and fit into the architecture.

Saudi with a fairly strong line up losing 3:2 to Bahrain in Gulf cup.

Big names are there but Yemen score two early against Saudi. 2:1 on 30min.

More Gulf Cup insights. Saudi have their shooting boots back with a 3:1 win against Iraq. Something of an experimental tournament for many teams but this is concerning. Bahrain have also looked good but lost the final group game to Yemen.

If we'd just gotten the job done the last window we'd be sitting so much more comfortably.

Souttar out puts us in an even tougher spot. Good Popovic added a bit more defensive depth. If bloody Deng had performanced well it'd be less stressful. Popovic has done really well in getting the best out of Geria. Matthews was fine ME away so hopefully he can be buoyed on. Degenek isn't fit yet but hopefully he goes to the WSW and is very sharp come March.

The next window can see things go very quickly with 2 wins as the ME teams both have Japan away.

Apparently, Lewis Miller had a MOTM performance this morning for Hibs plus Triantis scored

an out of the box option is alex grant
plays in the csl which is a modest league but was one of the best players in the k league the last 2 years. Sasha ognenovski showed that dominating the k league is an adequate level for international football

Popa will pick Rowles, Burgess and Geria is Souttar's injury is serious.
I don't think he will pick Matthews again

Good good. I keep forgetting Triantis as he's on neither wiki. I go a bit blank with all the names. Triantis is definitely one and the versatility must get him there. Have him sit ahead of a back 4 and ease into a back 5 when needed.
