World Cup Qualification Thread for 2026 - Socceroos/Asia

When did this get announced? Would have expected an FA email tbh (I haven't seen any)

C'mon mate, it IS embarrassing you have to agree? Its bad enough the Socceroos are playing some dire football, having a bunch of travelling fans out sing the national team is pretty crap.
It hasn't happened yet!

I think it's good tickets are selling fast I might miss out on tickets at this rate.

Australia vs Japan on 5 June (MD 9 of 10) is going to be in Perth

As AFC teams have the September window free, I would like to see the Socceroos planning for a double match date set of friendlies against teams in Euro WCQ Groups G-J in Europe

Something like Romania in Romania on 4 September followed by Czechia in Czechia on 8/9 September, as both are top 50 in the world. Norway and Wales may also be options.

Then when we finish this current stage of WCQ in June we can then look ahead to October 2025, November 2025 and March 2026 windows with a few scenarios locked in for European, Asian, North and South American opposition if we manage to qualify directly from the current stage or via the October 3 team playoff.

West Coast play Sunday June 1 at Optus so it makes the cut. No way in hell Australia Japan is happening at HBF. Bit of a bombshell that but the slightly closer difference in time to Saudi Arabia may be useful.

All 3 Sydney stadiums are being used by the NRL on June 1. Docklands has a game on June 5 so that's out.

Nice research for the UEFA qualification gaps. Really checks out and the FA should already be enquiring. AFC round 4 to be started in October.

Is it just me or is debuting at these stadiums such as GC and Optus just adding to a jinx? Had bad feelings the moment GC was announced. I'll be on Australia for during the Japan game and had booked Sydney hotels and was very sure the Olympic stadium would host it. I'll be cancelling all that and just watching at home in Erina. It'll save some money but also a bit of sanity. Had this been announced earlier I may have flown to Perth first.
