Wyndham City Stadium Thread

I think it's worth talking about but more in the sense that Victoria has a lack of suitable football stadiums. There are three A-League teams in Melbourne and yet there was only one stadium that was suitable for football. We now have another pitch that has made the grade which is a step in the right direction. The completion of Wyndham City Stadium will be an important achievement for football in Victoria as it would be the state's second, proper rectangular stadium.
I thought it was going to be the THIRD proper rectangular stadium??? The "completion" of Wyndham City Stadium is a dream these charlatans will NEVER deliver....

I'm just going by your definition of what a stadium is. And the stadium will be delivered. I know it's popular to attack the proposal (a symptom of the toxic infighting that has plagued football in this country for decades) but the delivery of the project is something that all football fans in this state should want to see – for the good of the game.

How is a privately owned stadium for a privately owned football franchise "for the good of the game"? What benefit will it bring to the hundreds of local clubs in the Western Melbourne area? Will WU allow them to train there, or play matches there?

Knights stadium is a privately owned rectangular stadium, 20kms closer to civilisation than your's is, is THAT also for the good of the game? Or does your (a symptom of the toxic infighting that has plagued football in this country for decades) still want to claim the 2nd 3rd and possibly 4th rectangular stadiums somewhere???? You know if those property hustlers came out and explained that YES we only run a football team because we wanna make some money from this dopey council and they are gifting us the land then you would gain a lot more credibility in the football community you (although someone like Horvath really should) know nothing about.

More football infrastructure is good for the game, mate. Particularly in a state with a relatively low number of rectangular pitches. Building better facilities and better pitches means better training and better players. The revenue the stadium generates means more investment into junior coaching, more programs with affiliate clubs and more investment into furthering the game in this country. Building the stadium frees up Ironbark Fields to be used by local clubs and for more local cup competitions.

Knights Stadium is great but it doesn't meet professional standards. That's what we're talking about here.

More a symptom of the dishonesty from this clubs owners from the get go. 8 years ago they said it was shovel ready. Their words not mine.
That's fair enough, they deserve the criticism for that. That doesn't mean they shouldn't build it though, and no football fan should hope the project fails.

I'm not hoping it fails. Never have. My concern is actually for the fans. My concern is that once the owners have their commercial and residential buildings along with the stadium completed they will look to offload WUFC immediately. Then you get some rando foreign buyer who does the bare minimum. Then nobody wins except for the fat cats with their developments on free land.

More state or council owned football infrastructure is Absolutely good for the game I agree mate, we dont have a low number of rectangular pitches, we have a dire lack of changing rooms, lights, and pavilions for the thousands upon thousands of kiddies to train on... its not about building better facilities it is about improving the ones we already have.

Dont give me this sale pitch palaver, Im not some corrupt Wyndham councillor to be bid too... Any "revenue" this council facility generates should go to a proper football club like Point Cook, or Truganina Hornets or Tarneit United ... all in your area, all forgotten by their local council ... "good of the game" spare me the gaslighting bullshit. It should NEVER have been gifted to a property developer to begin with but, people are greedy and easily led astray sadly..

So how many local clubs will be using Ironbark in preparation to this years Australia Cup??? 1, 2, 5 none? no need to answer... we all know whats going on...

I know, if this is ALL for "the good of football" why not a director guarantee that they wont sell the club for the next 40 years?

I agree, but does anything get built these days without tax payers? I'd rather a pitch than another oval in Tassie. Like my single vote counts for anything 😅
For the same money used to build roads, lighting, sewerage and a training facility (no better or worse than 3-4 others within the surrounding 10-20 kms) state government could have built male and female change rooms and provided floodlights for 10 thousand of our boys and girls to play and train on .... you say you wanaa football culture and a better national teams??? This is the sort of shit you should be upset about mate......

I think someone else said that, but point taken mate 😄

Ironbark has already been used for a few cups and youth programs. I agree we need more investment in the game at a local level, football is underfunded in this country. The decision to build a privately owned stadium is a symptom of that issue. Instead of looking to government, football has had to look towards private investment to fund infrastructure.

The deal with the council to build Ironbark and the surrounding roads is a mutually beneficial one. The council will see its share of returns on the sale of property and the expected increase to the local economy that building the precinct will bring. The rest of the money from land sales gets reinvested into the stadium project. I agree that the council could be doing more to invest in local clubs, which too often are dependent on federal and state government grants, and council upkeep of local club facilities can be lacking at times.

I'm not sure I agree with you on using Ironbark in preparation for the Australia Cup though, particularly with the Point Cook clubs. Tarneit is still 20+ minutes away from Point Cook, and playing the Australia Cup game there would take away from what should be a great local derby match.

Unfortunately I don't see this happening because the APL's strategy is dependent on international football capital to fill in the funding gaps, which is a shame. I wouldn't be surprised to see the APL pushing current owners to sell if potential buyers promise to invest beyond the cost of the sale.

Starting it would be a pretty fuckin big achievement too.

Any pictures of the build. Last I went was earlier this year but it was tools down. It's now Feb, anyone got any fresh pics.

Interesting.... doesn't WU already comply with the international investors philosophy then? Are they NOT planning on investing in the club after the dogbox housing estate gets built?

No, Im well aware of what the submission to the Whyndham council was... and what "mutually beneficial" means....

Using football and the local fans gullibility is what I object too...
