Yeah I was also wondering about the FA elections if JJ's term ends next month. Who would vote on that? Would the federations have that 50%+ share? Maybe JJ is trying to appease them to earn another term. I don't know, just trying to understand it all.

By my maths, that's 54.9 votes for the state feds, and another 28 for the APL

That may well be the case in NSW and Victoria but I’m sorry Mono, there is more to football in Australia than you and your one little club. I’m reasonably sure the “Premiers” of QLD, ACT, SA, WA, Tas will be happy to be competing on a national stage. The info released by the FA clearly states that 6 of the 14 teams didn’t have the financials, did you really want an 8 team comp with only teams from NSW and Victoria playing in a so-called “National” Second Tier? That was never going to succeed. At least it’s something and starting from somewhere. Who says the clubs will be “bled dry” by competing? For all we know, FA are covering the clubs’ travel costs. We don’t know. Stop the negativity. Maybe it makes you personally feel good but it doesn’t help. Do you really love football? Or just South Melbourne and some team over in Greece?
Whats wrong Kitty? Did I somehow hurt your feelings? Your assumptions about who or what I care for aside, Im sure you are well aware that most NPL clubs sign players, season to season, with a payment period allowing for 26-30 weeks plus 2 months part time for preseason. Im sure you, with your infinite care for ALL the clubs in Australia (I'd be impressed if you could name more than 1-2 in each state btw and no the franchises don't count as clubs) would be willing to help dozens of clubs fund the player payments required to manage to secure a squad in case they need one later in the year for an extra 8-10 weeks....

I mean its not really worthwhile for "Australian football" to start a national second division which at its very essence is NEEDED in order to funnel the best players (outside the Aleague) upwards and through to the participating clubs, with clubs not securing their best possible squads before they get to the pointy end of the year??

I mean sure, the FA claims that "6 of the 14 x clubs didn't have the financials" so how are the Premiers of QLD, WA, SA, ACT and TAS going to find the extra money need to retain staff, players, coaches AND travel across the country for an extra 3 months of the year??? AND IF The FA is funding this, then surely that money could have been used to fund a FULL season from teh getgo??? .... So (and I know you couldnt give a shit about the insignificant effnik clubs) but what about the 8 clubs that did have the funds? what do they tell their corporate sponsors?? Thanks for the cash guys, sorry your jersey will only be on the national stage for 6 maybe 9 games.... sowwwie :)

Is there any chance one federation could switch away from the fed voting bloc? It might only take one to start swinging some big changes.

Next question, who votes to install the fed leaders? I would hope it's the clubs.

curious myself

Member clubs vote the board of directors who in turn vote the President ... or that is what is supposed to happen...
Cheers. So really, the power is with the clubs. It's up to them to want to dissolve the federations and vote for directors who will get it done.

I suppose the clubs need to know what the better alternative is, which would need to be a developed plan coming from FA....

I won't hold my breath then 😅

I really like Cvetkovski's and the young boards approach to the whole revival of Preston these past years.... its paying off for their club, in spades.... Im not sure on the whole signing North Macedonian players and focusing on that aspect of their fanbase to the detriment of their other players and fans but if that's what they figure works for them then so be it.....
Preston really doubled down and it's apparently working. I think their community tops out at about 50,000 in Melbourne. If that's enough to sustain themselves, then their model works I suppose.

Brown paper bags all round then..

There were enough clubs interested, but some didn’t make the cutoff based on the rules set on money, stadiums etc. I assume many more clubs would be interested in the NSD if money wasn’t an issue.
So, ponder this; the NRL and our government are looking to fork out $600,000,000 to fund a team in PNG.

That would fund the NSD for decades. Why no govt support for NSD?

most interesting part - fq apparently warming up to the nst

I wonder if the academies can be a barganing chip here...

Hey guys! I was on this podcast (Neal) and yeah it definitely seems like FQ are somewhat warming up to what's going on at the moment - by the way love this forum, I do look at it quite a lot and the former FTBL forum did come in very handy when researching for the NPL Victoria commentary games!
