A-league attendances 24/25

... Not trying to be aggressive at all, sorry if you take it this way.

my "narrative" is that saying you were never made to feel welcome at NSL clubs when you didnt ever try to go and just assumed everyone there hated you is equally as bad as Lowy coming along a few year later and declaring "these clubs will NEVER play in the Aleague"

My narrative is the same as Ange's narrative and I wish you had found that in your life as well I really do mate. Nothing like having a club from father to son to father to son.... There are heaps of people at clubs like South that have NO Greek heritage yet feel the same way.... I wish you could understand that.
Fuck me.

I said and I quote I never found a team I could connect with in the NSL.

I went to many NSL games, my mate played for Apia, I saw many of his games, I went along to Northern Spirit games, you talk hate, because you hate the A-League.
I did not hate the NSL or the ethnic clubs.
I didn't like the admin of the NSL and I didn't find a club despite being a football fan.
You have the issues not me.

He's right in some regards. Good intentions don't pay the bills

Which is something the mediocrities that administer the game don't properly understand, mainly because they're unlikely to have ever run a business or in this case a franchise....

No good at paying the bills but completely fucken brilliant at empty virtue signalling!!

Sisters are doing for themselves.

Sisters are doing for themselves.
Not really. I watched a game on 10play on demand from the women's A League franchise competition a few weeks ago. CC v Vic-tor-ree. Wasn't a bad game to be fair, considering the poor things were playing right in the heat of the day in a big round open cavern of a Leichhardt Oval....

Crowd? 100 maybe 150.....

Not too many 'sister' supporters doing it for themselves.

Bill burr does a bit where he says women would rather see fights (like reality shows) then support each other (women sport) obviously it's for jokes but it drew a lot of attention to the yank women's football team

Well Bill Burr tells it like it is.....

Maybe not on this forum where for the milieu it's got to be all strawberries and cream all of the time, otherwise you're a troller but certainly in the real world.

I think the women's domestic game in Australia isn't really that bad. It's certainly not the best women's league in the world but considering its usually played in 30°C it does have some good games. In a lot of instances the ninja league is a better watch than the dross served up by the blokes.

But while the Matildas have captured the hearts of the nation and become the biggest national team in Australia after the men's cricket side, the domestic league is barely an afterthought.

Shame on you lot who profess to putting the Ninja franchise league on par with the dudes but then say they don't support it or even watch it.....

Just because someone points out the absolute fact that the poorly supported women's A League franchise competition is not self-sustainable in terms of the finance it produces, does not make them an Andrew Tait induced misogynist.....

The cold sobering reality is that the men's A League franchise competition is not even particularly sustainable itself and cannot afford to subsidise the women's game in Australia. Not on the paltry crowds of 4,5 or 6000 it gets at the minute.

Not with stadium cost's for some franchises off the scale. Like Brisbane.....<snigger snigger>
Oh I see, so if the Aleague clubs (both men and women) where "self sustaining" you would be right on that bandwagon?? Its "thee money" that the investors do or don't make that bothers you? Interesting.

Robbo I dont HATE you, seriously you get very defensive sometimes.... I'm just trying to understand your point of view because, quite honestly, I dont understand many of the issue you claim to have with pre-Aleague football.... Its not worth losing any sleep over it.

Well it was not just me was it, the A-League attendances was far bigger than the NSL.
You called us all new dawners, but I'm telling you there are many like me who had followed football in this country, but didn't follow an NSL club.

What like NSL men numbers?

I'm one of them. I attended plenty of South Melbourne games with mates in the last 90s / early 00s, but never felt a close affinity with them or considered myself a supporter. The crowd would chant Hellas rather than South Melbourne, a very large proportion of the attendees were Greek, and as someone not of Greek background, it never felt like a team I could truly get behind. I'm sure my experience at Somers Street would have been the same. I ended up as a Marconi supporter (in the days of Harper, Awaratife, Catlin, Maloney, Zoric, Renaud et al), given that I have Italian heritage and so this felt like where I belonged, and was pretty into them for a while, but supporting a Sydney-based club as someone from Melbourne was never ideal, and meant I could never really get to too many games or follow them wholeheartedly. The way i see it, unless you were Greek or Croatian background, there wasn't really a club for you, as a Melburnian. When Carlton and Collingwood entered the competition, I never got on board since I am also a big fan of the hawks. As a lifelong soccer fan/follower, what I really craved was a Melbourne based club, not tied to a particular ethnic demographic, or to an AFL club.... enter the A League.

Respected, and i wont argue against your "lived truth" as you described.. mine ( and most old football supporters) is one of multiple nationalities supporting my club albeit with a greek majority!

Your exact reasonings however is exactly why i will never support a failed franchise driven, souless mass, without an ounce of underlying history or culture to entice anyone for longevity.. and (happily from my end) the above is further being proven in the fickle numbers that continue to dwindle away despite the pipe dream you continue to try sell of de-efnikation...

why marconi and not morwell if you were looking for belonging? Lastly do the scotish undertones of MV not ring "efnik" enough for u or is the the right kind of "efnik"? Just random thoughts!

British people are hardly ethnic as such. They colonised the place , the modern Australia founders, and still have their flag on the Aussie flag

Yeah mate and I dont understand them either :P ..

Anyway you called yourselves the new dawn of football.. "New football NOT old soccer" remember?

Fair enough mate, but you cant tell me with a straight face that you were ever made to feel not welcome? Can you?
