A-league attendances 24/25

The A-League women's comp is just baggage the clubs fork out for, unwanted no, but money draining yes. Its like paying for child support to a one night stand. And they want equal pay which is a joke. I've tried to get the FTA TV rating but they have never made the threshold of 20k last year including finals and 40k this year - so any FTA game has never rated at all. Look I'm all for a women's comp that can fund itself - we need it to produce the next Matilda's but at what cost to the men's game? or the clubs that run them.
Fair and balanced comment, mate.

We desperately need to start producing the next wave of Sam Kerr's but that will take serious investment. Coin that AL franchises don't possess.

When it was the WNSL, did they have any links to any men's clubs? Or were they out on there own back then?

Would they survive on their own now? Or would the women's game go to the gutter and miss out when in the rest of the world it's just taking off?

Feels like the worst time to pull the plug on ALW.

The problem is with the women's professional game, at least at franchise level, the 'men in suits' would fall over themselves to give it equal status with the men's professional game....

Why did they do this?

Well it's called corporate socio-political activism.

They get taught by all these stylistic 'know it all' people at these DEI seminars that tell us that everyone and everything need this creativity from restricting viewpoint diversity, and then you have this need for organisations to keep up with a constantly changing cultural landscape....

It's probably working perfectly in the majority of industries and public sector organisations. However it's not really working in the industry of professional football...certainly not at franchise level in Australia.

See exactly, doesn't fit your narrative and you get aggressive.
I'm reading Ange's book and Ange is about my age.
He explains as a Greek Australian kid going with his Dad to watch Sth Melbourne play was the highlight of both their weeks.
I fully understand that, a place that reminds the old man of home and a young kid seeing his hero in his happy place.
This was not my experience in any clubs.
... Not trying to be aggressive at all, sorry if you take it this way.

my "narrative" is that saying you were never made to feel welcome at NSL clubs when you didnt ever try to go and just assumed everyone there hated you is equally as bad as Lowy coming along a few year later and declaring "these clubs will NEVER play in the Aleague"

My narrative is the same as Ange's narrative and I wish you had found that in your life as well I really do mate. Nothing like having a club from father to son to father to son.... There are heaps of people at clubs like South that have NO Greek heritage yet feel the same way.... I wish you could understand that.

To be fair Mac, I've noticed that most of them prefer to avoid the difficult questions, the obvious problems and anything else that might be perceived as a 'negative comment' when it comes to the A League franchise competition....

It's all strawberries and cream on this two bobber...

I despise the Aleague and think both of your comments are just highlighting the opinion of shit human beings... If you see women as somehow less deserving of access to sport than men, than either you are just absolute cunts or you must have been abused as children.. Grow the fuck up....

You don't have to like women's sport (I dont particularly) you dont have to watch it (i don't much either) but this is Australia not some fascist right wing shithole. EVERYBODY has the right to live a life without such prejudiced bullshit... do better or fuck off... enough already, I get that you both , for some odd reason get your jollies by being "controversial" or whatever you muppets call it but.... c'mon. dont you have mother's, wives, girlfriend's, sister's or whatever that you at least pretend to have respect for?

Wot do you care? Your not even Australian. And where in my post did i say Ban the ALW? Im all for the women's game but it has to fund it self better and promote itself better without being such a drain and players expecting equal pay to the men.

I was gonna say similar a little while back but got side tracked - here here !
No mates kiwi possibly Sutho ?

I looked at this thread hoping to see weekly crowd numbers at the different games - like Joffa used to post on 442.

I can't see some posts, because I've used the Ignore function for a number of posters who've joined this place from Anarchy intending to troll. I encourage others to do the same, as I've seen a few names of well known trolls - not active on IS/442 - as they were banned.

I've been nervous to read spectator numbers for some of the smaller A L crowd pullers, like Macarthur and Western U. I'm hoping we will get our annual two Western U games in Hobart in January, because we pull bigger crowds than Western U draw in Geelong - with virtually no media publicity. I'm still angry with Gallop and Fox, for awarding Mac and Western U over Tas, when we had the best AL bid for a team!

Anyone know the crowd figures for the last few rounds of the AL - and the breakdown from venue to venue?

You can have a play around these sites:

Just because someone points out the absolute fact that the poorly supported women's A League franchise competition is not self-sustainable in terms of the finance it produces, does not make them an Andrew Tait induced misogynist.....

The cold sobering reality is that the men's A League franchise competition is not even particularly sustainable itself and cannot afford to subsidise the women's game in Australia. Not on the paltry crowds of 4,5 or 6000 it gets at the minute.

Not with stadium cost's for some franchises off the scale. Like Brisbane.....<snigger snigger>
