A-league attendances 24/25

How about a different thought: it's up to the clubs to address the crowd issues no more excuses the best club will reign supreme whole the weak clubs can perish
I was in Auckland for the game & it was a long weekend in Auckland & many people left town (to go to their batch - holiday house).

your club wouldn't exist if it weren't for the franchise system

Disappointing crowds last week for Auckland and the Melb Derby. Whilst I expected some drop off, given how round 1 went for Auckland I though they may crack 20k again. And only 20k for Melbourne Derby, yikes. Huge issue that needs addressing. I am confident the NZ derby will knock off the Melb Derby for crowd.
Yep, Victorian A-League clubs need to step it up this year - 20k is a pass mark but should have been 25/26k (especially considering it was the first game in Melbourne for the season). Very interested to see Victory home game and WUFC V City 'derby' crowds this weekend, pass mark is 14k and 7.5k IMO.

Gotta love the mentality of people complaining about a 20k attendance. How about you direct your attention to the clubs that have been around just as long but pulled less than 10k over the weekend. It's not the sole responsibility of the Melbourne and Sydney clubs to boost the averages every week. Every club is responsible for their own fanbases and getting them through the doors. I reckon 20k for a City home derby isn't that bad considering the cost-of-living issues at the moment.

My long held belief is we need to make crowds our major revenue source....

To this end I feel we need to lift crowds to a 15K average within the next three years.... as side issue is crowds of that size will effect our media coverage as well...

Consider this, the MLS has always relied on crowds, last season they had over 11.5 million for their regular home season and for their cup tournament with Mexico they had over 1.3 million, and they should get about 700K for their final series ... thats 13.5 million and at say 60.00 per ticket thats roughly a billion dollars...

it's a good theory, but one that has never succeeded in 20 years

This isn't strictly true.

What they did do is expand at the peak of football's support in the country (in the wake of success by their NT).

I'd say there's no way we get an average of 15k within three years - instead we should be looking at how to convert some of the kids who are playing into regular bums on seats.

Looks like Brisbane is heavily restricting available seats in the stadium to the point where the only available seats are now down the end bays of the side and the bay to the side of the Den. Whole other half of the stadium plus the top tier is blanked out. Unsure why they wouldn't open the three middle bays in the top tier on both sides since the bottom appears to be sold out. Basically 10 bays in the whole stadium out of what must be about 100 bays are open. We will just watch on tv now unfortunately.

Exactly, I think 20K is a good crowd, I think the crowds on the back of some marketing has been good this year.
I was in Auckland last weekend for the Auckland v SFC & the crowd created a good atmosphere & lots of kids & adults with lots of merchandise, it was also a long weekend so many people were out of town, so yes 15K was a good crowd.
I must've been the only one not jumping for joy when they scored in the 97th minute.

Not sure how anybody can complain about a 20k+ crowd.

Apart from finals, i don't think the NSL ever had a crowd of +20k,

The crowds in the early days of Aleague were always gonna start of with a bang as it was the new cool thing in town, similar to Crickets big bash.

Now the novelty has worn off, the crowds we get now are the rusted on loyal supporters which is great. Of course, there is always room for growth, but management have obviously fucked it.

Also AAMI park is a bit of a challenge to get close to capacity due to the pricing tiers. Capacity for a standard A-League game seems to be around 27k. They push it out to 28-29 for a GF, but a regular season game seems to be around 27k. Getting to low 20s is fairly achievable, but selling out those expensive tickets can be a challenge. Melbourne Derby also isn't really the rivalry people might perceive it to be. Most MV people (myself included) rate the SFC and AU games well above the MC games. The SFC and AU games are usually great games and you don't get as many casuals at the game which makes for a much better atmosphere.

Which reasons?
There are hundreds of little things... but for me the big say three.

Poor connecting [over 70 years BTW] to park teams....

Over the years various management teams have failed to unite the Football community, moreover we are like a bunch of tribes with each tribe thinking they are the chosen ones...

Finally a lack of respect for Australian professional Football again for over 70 years....

Which reasons?
The FFA civil war that saw Stephen Lowy removed had huge effects on the fans.
David Gallop turned on the active support especially WSW & MV, this saw dramatic drop.
Lack of marketing especially after last World Cup.
Lack of connection with the football family.

Im confused Mid.... so you feel that the "solution" to all three of your points above is to look at what the MLS is doing and continue down the path of closed shop, stand alone league? How does that "connect to park teams" and or "unite the football community"? Respect is a two way street mate and the APL doesn't even respect its own fans let alone anyone else in Australian football.

Weak clubs wont persih... they cant get relegated remember..... Absolutely NO punishment for poor performance either on or off the pitch... At least old Lowy ditched the Fury and the fat man's team... now with the foreigners in charge no license is gonna be left behind for fear of reducing the value.

Yeah, I was watching and waiting to see if another bay would be released, but bit the bullet last week. 1st home game of the season has been the only mildly interesting one for the last couple of seasons. After that it becomes a matter of choosing which away team to view as a neutral. What was the reason for leaving Redcliffe again?

So Melbourne City should perish? Fairly sure they are 3rd last behind WU and Bulls?
