Adelaide are pulling their weight

I think teams like Victory and Adelaide have a certain calibre where they will always have fans, regarding their infancy or history. Are they competitive in Asian comps and I wonder what their salary cap % is looking like, because no doubt they would want to be the preferred destination of players due to their fan bases.

Are you forecasting a good period in the next year or so?
Mate anything can happen. But there's a bunch of potential based on historical numbers. Victory, Brisbane, Wanderers, City, Newcastle, Mariners, Perth all have huge room for improvement.

I think Perth could easily turn it around. Mariners not so much, they've already seen success and it's barely registered there. The rest all have their own problems and don't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.

The vague talk of roar making up the 1.5 million in lost revenue by running the company better fascinates me

if the tv revenue returns and we keep these efficiency reforms along with transfer fees the a league could really grow

TV revenue, fuck downsize some of the stadiums, bin off Simon Hill, generate some excitement. It's a real missed opportunity, the suited and booted boys had a point of saying that 'entertainment' (sadly) factors into the football product now days.

There is an Ignore function, SB.

If anyone annoys you, activate the Ignore function and one never sees anything they post.

This is 18 years old, the NSL era.

I wish we had promo/releg with AL Div 1, 2, 3 etc, with all clubs included, but to constantly denigrate the AL as our pro league is boring.

Many of these guys were coaches in an era of 32 years of failure to qualify for the WC. They wouldn't adopt the new revised National Curriculum - arguing they knew better. The new whiz gen of young footballers coming through into the AL is vastly superior to any previous era, after 10 years of Dutch/Spanish/French coaching methodology.

Their last remnant is that less Aussies are playing at Big Clubs in Europe. Asia has improved immeasurably since we joined. It was the second most successful in the last World Cup after Europe. We've improved too, but not relative to some other Asian nations

I always think of this clip when nsl and a league fans argue about who's worse

Matey youve really gotta stop thinking about clubs as "belonging" to a league, expeciall one as garbage as the NSL... it ceased to exist 20 years ago and all of these clubs till play in other leagues now.....

Ask your Middlesborough pals, what they consider themselves "fans" of are they a Premier League club, a Championship club. a first Division club perhaps????

Yeah but it's different because we're arguing which is a better league nsl or a league. EPL and championship is the newer league before that it was the premiership and before you say it I know they have promotion and relegation so no team is left out

Thats not even a question, Aleague wins hands down ....NOBODY is arguing that the NSL was a "good" league... at least Im certainly not and never have.. Sure it had some acceptable qualities but it was just a league....

But why are people coming on here and laughing at the a league crowds?

I'm a Derby County fan & happy see us in the championship & see the PL as mainly franchised teams, where the most monies win.
However, I don't go onto PL sites or threads & criticise the PL & those who do follow it. That would be boring.

I didn't get to see the NSL so can't comment too much, but the quality that came out of it was great for a semi-professional league.

*I just had to double check that league status, there seems to be conflicting statements about it. Was the NSL introducing profesional clubs towards the end? Wiki says Perth Glory, Collingwood, Carlton, Northern Spirit, Parramatta and Kingz were professional clubs?

Look Robbos some of us who are local supporters of 2nd div clubs actually have ambition, your fine to enjoy Darby being in the championship (its a lovely comp).

A Championship club this season but a Premier League club next! 😎

I'm a bit like you Robbo. For clubs like your Middlesborough's, Derby's and so on you're going to have to find a proper billionaire willing to invest in every level of the club in order to ensconce yourself into the Premier League. Not to say it can't be done. Look at Brighton and Brentford.

Middlesborough have a self made local businessman who has owned us for 30+ years. He's wealthy, yes but not like the American hedge funds or Middle- Eastern Sovereign Wealth Funds.

I like the authenticity of having an owner who has been supporting Middlesborough since he was a kid like me. Success is secondary to that. But that doesn't mean I don't like the Premier League. I do, I watch it avidly.

Having said that if there's an Arabic trillionaire reading this please, please google Middlesborough FC!!!

If you ask 1000 Derby fans if they would like to see their club promoted to the EPL 999 will immediately reply yes.... only one little lonely Aussie who watches youtube highlights every few weeks will say "No, happy to stay relegated thanks"

No I don't care about that I rather argue fairly well accept the wrongs of the a league but then you blokes need to accept the wrongs of the npl/nsl

We agree on promotion relegation 😄
I hereby formally accept that both the NSL and NPL were/are run by donkeys and clowns and both leagues (together with the VPL in the interim period) are equally as shit structurally as the Aleague.

Can we move on now?

We fans of fooball in Australia both deserve and desire (although many Aleague customers are still clinging furiously to their little protected fiefdom in fear of losing their "uniqueness") a full league pyramid with equal rules for ALL Australian football clubs regardless of their lcoation, size, professionalism, budget and origin.. A world were a 100 year old regional club and a 2 week old Sunday league team, can compete ONLY on the pitch and rise or fall through merit ALONE....

This is the first step on the 10000 step journey to even beginning to become a football mad nation ... we ignore it at our peril.
