Exactly Joparo, something my Sth Melb friends don't want to understand, yes of course I'd like to have Derby in the PL competing at the highest level with our own Arab Trillionaire, as a matter of fact, we toyed with the idea a few years back, either not one of the rich brothers or it was dodgy.I'm a bit like you Robbo. For clubs like your Middlesborough's, Derby's and so on you're going to have to find a proper billionaire willing to invest in every level of the club in order to ensconce yourself into the Premier League. Not to say it can't be done. Look at Brighton and Brentford.
Middlesborough have a self made local businessman who has owned us for 30+ years. He's wealthy, yes but not like the American hedge funds or Middle- Eastern Sovereign Wealth Funds.
I like the authenticity of having an owner who has been supporting Middlesborough since he was a kid like me. Success is secondary to that. But that doesn't mean I don't like the Premier League. I do, I watch it avidly.
Having said that if there's an Arabic trillionaire reading this please, please google Middlesborough FC!!!
Would you still; watch it (as a died in the wool born and bred Derby member ... lol) if the EPL closed up shop and Derby was left with no way of ever being allowed to compete for promotion in the the EPL?Exactly Joparo, something my Sth Melb friends don't want to understand, yes of course I'd like to have Derby in the PL competing at the highest level with our own Arab Trillionaire, as a matter of fact, we toyed with the idea a few years back, either not one of the rich brothers or it was dodgy.
Derby also pushed the financial side of things to get back to the PL & ended up a financial wreck & ended in the 3rd tier for 2 years after filing for bankrupcy.
I too love the PL & watching a US Hedge fund team in Liverpool play some beautiful football, but like you I watch, I don't have a team in the PL to follow.
Good point. Excellent point in fact.Would you still; watch it (as a died in the wool born and bred Derby member ... lol) if the EPL closed up shop and Derby was left with no way of ever being allowed to compete for promotion in the the EPL?
* No need to answer btw....
I already do, I just no feelings towards any team in the PL & I don't expect Derby to ever compete at the top level unless.Would you still; watch it (as a died in the wool born and bred Derby member ... lol) if the EPL closed up shop and Derby was left with no way of ever being allowed to compete for promotion in the the EPL?

The EPL would shut up shop in a millisecond if it was allowed, the same with UEFA.Would you still; watch it (as a died in the wool born and bred Derby member ... lol) if the EPL closed up shop and Derby was left with no way of ever being allowed to compete for promotion in the the EPL?

Thats NOT what I asked..... I agree btw....The EPL would shut up shop in a millisecond if it was allowed, the same with UEFA.
I guess that where we are differnt then.. I LOVE my club and want it to rise to to the top level.... Football is a religion, not a TV movie of the weekI already do, I just no feelings towards any team in the PL & I don't expect Derby to ever compete at the top level unless.
However, I wouldn't waste my time in a PL website or PL Thread complaining & whinging about Liverpool, Man U, Man City, Chelsea & Arsenal.

I do too and my club Sydney FC is in the top level.I guess that where we are differnt then.. I LOVE my club and want it to rise to to the top level.... Football is a religion, not a TV movie of the week![]()
Loving the way Liverpool are playing this year a joy to watch.ah the see saw what I like but the hidden truth what you'd really wish for........
Boro
Derby - my fellow ex playing mate and golfing ex derby local is cringing every single week and season in HOPE one day things turn around for the climb back up.
I get the report from him every week we catch up, I'm sorry from a hedge funded LFC long time supporter that suffered for years and years we came back last 10yrs don't care who the owners are, its all about the shirt, the history, the legends of the past and present, thats what I luv.
The old usual well known suspects of the past in championship
Stoke !
Luton
Hull
QPbloodyR
Norwich
Blackburn
Watford
just to name the few who ALL would dearly luv to be back in the top league - and guess what at least they still have that window open thats the main thing !
One day that sugar daddy may come along and won't those fans rejoice despite saying they are happy where they are due to the origins of the past, the old owners are not going to get you there pretty much.
Its snakes and ladders no matter what level your in but thats what makes the game great, P/R, its the DNA of FOOTBALL.
as you know thats todays game and for sometime, deep block counters depending your opponent.Loving the way Liverpool are playing this year a joy to watch.
Today, maybe not your best day, but I saw Notts Forest, running 2nd, 3rd in the PL playing at home, playing a total defensive game playing on counter attack, with only 30% procession.
Totally agreed with this tactics, as they were playing American Hedge funds Liverpool, who's bench is worth more then the entire Forest squad.
It made for boring football.
109% P/R is the way to go
My hope for you Robbo, then, is that your beloved Sydney FC is NEVER relegated to the state leagues and locked out of the first division forever ... this will never happen ofcourse (lucky you) but Im sure your enjoyment of football at the "top level" would change if it ever did.I do too and my club Sydney FC is in the top level.
With Derby just showing how sometimes football suck, when your club cannot compete at the top level. Happens all around the world including the biggest comp in the world.
Oh don't get wrong, I watch the PL every week and Mo Salah and TAA are beautiful players to watch, loving Liverpool under Slot.as you know thats todays game and for sometime, deep block counters depending your opponent.
I'm with you generally, I can't stand all the stats/analysis that has bred this approach and game today - though natural ability by a player turns the game mind you.
Considering the thread is about attendances the boring football has full crowds every single game - because P/R throws in the curve balls and encourages the lower table Clubs to fight fight fight for survival as you know......
If you look at the table, there is Forest/Bournemouth/Villa/Fulham/Brentford/Brighton top half of the huge boringladder !
Can't say either of them are big Clubs compared to the usual suspects eh - thats 6 mid size clubs doing a ok against the massive ones, I think the EPL is doing quite ok considering the huge divides in finances.
I'm riverted viewing every single week, some awesum football.
Yer its the way to go agreed hence why I can't gravitate towards the model we have and divide we live in is draining for all.
I'd luv to catch with you in my APIA or SU/shirts vs SFC, I'm sure we'd have fun bants along the way with a few beverages.
As I've said b4 I feel for you and fully understand. My hope for you Robbo, then, is that your beloved Sydney FC is NEVER relegated to the state leagues and locked out of the first division forever ... this will never happen ofcourse (lucky you) but Im sure your enjoyment of football at the "top level" would change if it ever did.
2 not 3.As I've said b4 I feel for you and fully understand.
I followed Derby when they won 3 premierships in the 70s and has been too 10 many times in 80s, 90s.
I'll never experience that again.
So basically you don't like how money has taken over the sport think we can all agree on thatOh don't get wrong, I watch the PL every week and Mo Salah and TAA are beautiful players to watch, loving Liverpool under Slot.
My point being despite Derby not there and even if they do would be closer to the bottom then winning PL, while I prefer the 70s when any club can win as opposed to 2-3 these days, I still follow the PL.
I accept football in any country is not perfect.
