Australian transfers 24-25 winter

there definitely seems to be an instant hatred of the board with every aussie signed before they kick a ball

we have the most indirect league in the world played in some of the hottest conditions and the scottish league is played in cold boggy conditions and the most physical, direct, dare I say hoofball league I've seen
Between December and February, they are usually harder than any Australian pitch.

What data do you base that on?

Australian pitches are notoriously rock hard and Scottish pitches are always soft, wet and slow in comparison. So much so that that the ball behaves differently and players can take a long while to adjust. Not least as their soft tissues are used to the rock hard / hot conditions (developed over a lifetime) and injuries can easily occur in colder, softer, wetter conditions.

This is not, in any way, a criticism of the SPL. It's just a recognition of a major difference.

Are you aware what cold weather does to pitches ? They freeze over and are hard as granite, covered in ice.

Lots of players wear trainers in these conditions, as any type of stud is useless.

I have a theory about the abuse Oz players so often get in Scotland...

It just about always takes Oz players a while to adjust to the softer pitches and cold conditions of Scotland after playing on rock hard, zippy pitches in Oz. The cooler conditions allow for a faster pace and therefore less time to make decisions than they are used to. On top of that, there is the unrelenting pressure and scrutiny from media and fans. Some take longer than others.

Those who aren't instantly amazing cop abuse. And the reason Oz players cop more abuse than most (IMnsHO) is that Scots feel bullied and belittled by English fans re the standard of their league. They therefore respond in typical schoolyard fashion by bullying, in turn, those they regard as inferior to themselves. They don't regard Australia as a proper football country (despite our respective FIFA rankings) so they despise the A-League as shite and our players are pish. Any Oz player who doesn't immediately win the league for them reinforces this prejudice.

They can change though. I've seen on Celtic forums how contempt turned to love regarding MacDonald, Rogic, Mooy and (especially) Ange. It's happened on the Hearts forum re Devlin and Nieuwenhof... they've been especially bipolar re Rowles. The Hibs forum is up and down re Triantis and Miller (although Triantis is emerging as a fan favourite, as is Nisbet at Ross County).

Mind you, any Scottish forum can go from joy to outrage and despair (and back again) at any moment. They just really have it in for our players... until they don't.
Nail on the head. Even Irvine at Hibs was rusty at the time. Ends up at St Pauli after much more comfortable.

Nonsense, Scottish supporters treat all players equally as bad. One or two bad games on the bounce and all players get it in the neck. Remove the chip on your shoulder.

Well you're right about their short fuse and patience. In turn that probably want makes them pine for unrealistic success so much. It'll never happen.

This has been going on for over 150 years. No point going to support your teams if you are just happy to be playing, like they do in Australia. People here just accept defeat, too easily. Happy clappers, if you will.

Nope. For years I've read obsessively the forums where Australians are and the number of times I've seen the nationality singled out for being generally shit is countless. "Get all Aussies tae fuck... they're all shite. Why don't they stick to cricket and rugby etc" is something I've read many many times - especially on the Celtic, Hearts and Hibs forums.

And yet NEVER have I read similar comments about any other nationality. Eg get all Englishmen, Swedes, French, Germans, Americans, Eskimos tae fuck...

Fantastic comment. A Scottish mate basically said exactly what you’ve written. And also that as they have moved over from the A-Liga to the SPL, they’re considered as the better or best players in the league, so when they don’t set the world on fire in Scotland, or are “just” good players or good squad players, they cop it from the Scottish fans.

Geria to j league as per a league reddit
Just saw that. Hope it works out. A bit risky for the national team situation as we have 2 out, Burgess and potentially Geria not playing. Bos a tad choppy but should get into gear.

Quite a bit of chatter about Irankunda already being a failure. Utter nonsense.

I do wonder, however, whether talents going to smaller clubs and being a bigger fish in a smaller pond can create a more quality, genuine for a better term, desire to recruit our players.

Bos has done it the right way. Metcalfe was off the correct level for Bundesliga 2 and his status has increased.

For me it's about getting tangible numbers of the board instead of this woeful status of being just a training member at a big club.

Brook, Francois, Watts, Peupion were never going to make it regularly in the big time but had all this EPL media promotion. At the time it would've been better to stick it out in the lower leagues. We saw it with Brook and now he has an MLS gig.

Watts is doing the right thing finally. Peupion must follow. Gauci's Villa move is a mistake.

Next in line is Chris Donnell at Fulham and I wonder what Matt Dench is going to do at Charlton.

Grazor rightly analysed our players bloom and peak a bit later than many nations but the lingering as the oldie in youth teams probably doesn't help. It's probably also a sign that they're not going to reach any heights.

Why would Geria not play?

Why would Geria not play?
He probably will. He may end up playing a lot less. It's just that bit of extra risk now when our defensive players aren't getting too regular minutes.

There's faith in Burgess but Godfrey completed his medical so it'll be incredibly hard to come back in.
