Because they don't have tik tok and gaming in Spain, Germany, France and Italy?

they have football culture and a much greater population

Australia's edge historically was an outdoor culture and hard work ethic. That's now been completely nullified by the modern generation who possess neither of those attributes.

So it's not tik tok and gaming. Thanks.

no it is TikTok and gaming. You seem to have trouble with comprehension.

They both exist in countries where good GKs are being produced.

You said our natural advantage of 'reasons', because other countries don't possess an ''outdoor culture and hard work ethic', apparently, had been nullified.

So ALL THINGS BEING EQUAL, those countries should be affected by the twin demons of tik tok and gaming.

Get your hand off it.

I'm not surprised a simpleton proffers simplistic answers.

Interesting that the blow out in the 97 Confed Cup Final ( 6-0 after Viduka send off in 10 minutes) makes Bozza's record similar to the other 2. He was massive in the round robin and semi. Same with the International Cup Final played in Tokyo where United won 1 nil in November 1999. Giggs was given MOM, but Bozza deserved it as he kept United in the game with several brilliant saves.

Australia had an edge in a particular area which has been neutralised entirely. The edge that Europe has is population and football culture which still exists.

Bullshit we had an 'edge'. Like this mythical 'mateship' which no other country has apparently.

Australia has a superior climate and open space compared to most of the developed world. This isn't disputed.
This doesn't mean Australia was ever anything in the world of football but it was an attribute that redressed some of that gap in quality. Now that's gone Australia is on the same level of any other tinpot overpopulated unathletic SE Asian nation. ...and since you lack comprehension skills I'm not saying Australia is overpopulated, my original point stands.

Yeah Brazil and Argentina (not to mention 30 other countries) really struggle with the climate and space aspect of your argument.

They have football culture and massive populations. (see original point) They also play street football in favelas while Australians are on their Xboxes.
You really seem quite slow on the uptake here.

Settle down fellas. Let’s all agree that we are having a downturn in the production of quality goalkeepers. Especially ones that identify as male.

As a country have we ever considered utilising the athletic strength of AFL players to put them inbetween the sticks? Of course we will need to fast track our methodology when it comes to teaching them how to play with the feet, but at least their athletic ability and aerial prowess are already there. It’s worth a shot IMO.

Played touch football with a couple of AFL players. They are too ingrained with fumbling the ball.

It is a bit perplexing that Brad Jones and Michael Petkovic are put in the poll, whilst Matt Ryan, who has played many games as a Socceroo, isn't put in the poll mix?

Moreover, Ryan has played a lot of recent games for the Socceroos.

There is also the added function of the modern keeper. The ability to play as a sweeper.

A modern keeper has three parts of the job - shot stopper as a line keeper, ability to command the penalty box and sweeper. Some of the keepers are better in some areas than others. Some of the older keepers listed in the poll struggled as sweepers.
I think it's important to judge a player against the era they're from. Schwarzer and Bosnich weren't great with their feet but it wasn't that important in their era either. If it was my bet is they'd have developed better footskills, but we'll never know.

In the NT context, I'd have Schwarzer starting with Bozza on the bench. If a game went to a shootout, I'd sub on Bozza. Schwarzer has that long term consistency, but I reckon I'd value Bozza for those individual moments of invincibility in the big games.
Stunned by this...

If you want to see an individual moment of invincibility, rewatch the penalty shootout vs Uruguay on 16 Nov 2005.

It's Schwarzer - then daylight - then daylight again before Bozza, Ryan and co enter the conversation.

Amazed there's no discussion of Langerak who, in my estimation, is the best since Schwarzer but has been totally ripped off when it comes to representing Oz.

I'm not re Langerack, thats the prob he has been in the dark as good as he is.
Been ripped by NY selectors for years (i reckon could have stepped over Ryan) and hidden in the JLeague that hasn't got any exposure to the general public/neutral let alone football supporters who are in low numbers checking in on JL.
Besides his club career is dominated in Japan barring the 2 stints in Bundas under 100 games, again hardly known to the general viewer.

Yes sorry Bowden for I know he's joined and welcome but Matty does freak me out many times just as MS had done in the past in other ways.

As for the evolution of a GK as mentioned by D2 and mentioned, yer we all know this though quoting GK's pre that huge change well its wasn't in their training, I mentioned re Bozza Scholes couldn't believe he struggled goal kicks to halfway for eg...imagine passing out haha

What are you talking about mate?

It’s not only our mateship, but it’s our ability to get tough when the tough gets going, our bravery and humour, and unique blend of resilience and irreverence.

Get up there Cazaly!
