Expansion Thread

I'm guessing that there are going to be no expansion teams given the cost. Not in the forseeable future, anyway.

The most likely exception is Gold Coast. Stadium, heading for a million people. Bespoke derby with Brisbane. I could see that attracting a bid. None of the others.

Good thing the APL have Gold coast or Tassie ready to go for next season... right guys??

Has to be said that its not the job of APL to have any new clubs "ready to go". Its all dependent on the investors being there to stump up the cash, which is NEVER going to happen with Tasmania and is unlikely to happen with Canberra. I don't understand why so many people seem to have the idea that APL is dragging the chain. Does anyone seriously think that if the investors were there, with the cash, we would not have a team in Canberra by now?

Personally, I think Canberra is far less likely than Gold Coast, based on population figures among other factors, and there is no buzz concerning either.

The problem with football in Australia has always been and still is lack of money. We have champagne dreams but only Diet Coke change to spend.

And when we constantly fail in the ACL and don't have a single player in an EPL squad and only Circati and Irvine from Germany, Spain, Italy and France top tier (and then there is how awful the NT is right now), you have to conclude we are low on playing talent as well. I love the A League, but it is always sobering to see how our players can't compete in Asia. Something fundamental isn't working.

This is going to sound critical, but this is embarrassing for Canberra and the APLs at this point.

They have never had funding or the relevant backing to get a team up.

APLs have to pivot. Id seriously consider Sunshine coast or back to Gold Coast.

I'm saying that APL have had two seasons to sort out expansions 15 and 16. Or do you expect the APL to do nothing about those bids until the Canberra bid finally fails or succeeds, and only then will the APL work out the next expansions, only for those to drag on for years as well and possibly not succeed either?

I swear we need the Japanese or Germans in charge here. At least as consultants. Get shit done.

Why is it double $50mil? So don't get into the top flight then, easy.
Im guessing at $50 mill .... who knows what they will want for expansion slots 15 and 16?

That pathway to the Aleague is now well and truly closed for existing clubs.... its on APL to find investors... or Im guessing they will be stuck at 11 Australian clubs for ever.... Maybe they can beg Auckland City and (Synderland Sharks - or whichever Australian franchise is made up to join this ... display) after they get a few years worth of Oceania Champions League money?

Only because General Manager Dave Clarkson was adamant not too long ago, that South want top flight, I hope they do personally.

If Canberra won't happen it should be a second Brisbane (Strikers) and Wollongong.

Having those two should silence all the NSL bitters as all the mainstream old NSL clubs would be there (bar the defunct Northern Spirit and Parramatta Power).

With regards to Strikers, we will find out in March if Perry Park will be part of any funding to do with Brisbane Olympics 2032.
