Wow this is super amazing, interesting how the term 'mainstream' is used and floating created teams in place of South and Knights. Where did you find this? Are there more treasures from Australian football obscurity we can try and search for?
Yeah there are a few familiar ideas in there. I found the document in two places. On Ozfootball and the website of the company that did the proposal, it's still there after 20 years!

Top sleuth work mate!! Remember having eyed it somewhere ages and ages ago, but stupidly hadnt kept a copy for reference!

Geez I've learnt a lot these past few days 😅 . Anyone heard of the Australasian Premier League? A proposal in 2003 for a new league with second division!

Never heard of this one at the time, nothing. All I(& I suspect most of us left over from those days) knew about was the PFA’s proposed model(which Lowy & O’Neill cherry-picked to form the conceptual basis of the ALM):

Yeah I just read yesterday that these were the only two proposals, but I had only heard of the PFA's. And it was the PFA that shut down any NST ideas. Was that under Schwab? It seems Lowy was open to the NST.

why did the pfa shut down the nst?

I don't know if I go another season with a bye round I hate it
Yeah - it is a pain, and if this could be tied up quickly assuming that it is (and assuming it isn't another false start) then they should be asked to put in a ALM team straight away. They already have a ALW team - they have the backroom staff. Appoint the manager soon and let them get on with it.

The original 8 were chosen in November 2004 and played in the 2005 Australian Club World Championship Qualifying Tournament in May 2005. So 8 clubs - let alone 1 team can be put together quickly. A western Sydney team was announce on 4/4/2012 and played there first game on 6/10/2012 winning the premiership in their first season into an established competition before going on to win the AFC Champions League.

I'd go

1 Canberra
2 Gold Coast
3 Tasmania

I think that all 3 of these locations could realistically sustain an A-League club. 2 of them already have the perfect A-League specific stadium and somebody would have to educate me on Tasmania's rectangular stadium situation?

Scrap GC altogether. There may be people there but they are not into team sports. It would be interesting to know the number of people per age groups for all three locations.

Those with the money will decide where to invest. Having been there during Palmer's failed experiment, I think Gold Coast can work. Forget Tasmania. No private money and the state is broke.
