Green & Gold FC Podcast #3 – SMFC Mike & Pete

They’ve blocked 99% of people on Sokkah Twitter. Everyone that isn’t in their deluded bubble.
don't want to assume anything, but note that you use the word "deluded little bubble". We would love to do an episode interviewing someone with very different perspectives to mike and pete. Would love to hear if you have a suggestion for a guest? (floated a couple too)

I agree, that would be interesting to hear... Perhaps ask the same series of question as it would be good to hear what people not affected by the "shunning" felt when it happened to clubs they had no interest in.

Yes. I don’t agree with 100% of his opinions so ofc
Don’t worry about them - sounds that’s how they are therefore their interaction with some will be limited.
Can’t be any worse than those in the safe space and trump threads - Christ I just scroll by them some weirdos and a half

yeah there is an ignore button here which is working wonders for me :D

I don't want it to turn into a tit-for-tat shit slinging contest. I want to hear about everyone working together for progress, and ideas for the good of the game in Australia. Learn from the past and move forward. Old wounds have been done to death. Old prejudices have been done to death. Let's build this NST and ignore the haters. Not ignoring the concerns, just the haters.

That's just me though. I don't want any more dragging down. Lift each other up.

Culture, without a doubt what its all about and what supporters thrive on and enhances the rivalries amongst other good things that make the experience and club passion you follow.
There is so much to recover its all there, Mike mentions re his kids, mine similar.
They luv football but its not the same as we grew up when the ol clubs were the main top comp, we've lost 2 gens at least, they have not invested in AL, they tried can't relate to a made up club type of platform.
All these kids/young adults so so many follow euro leagues, do we/they see any new Clubs formatted out of the blue generally ? no.
I agree, I can only talk about Sydney FC but Sydney FC was geninuely the only place where my father and myself would see people from our nationality other than the loitering around the three sisters in Redfern or Eastlakes.

It was like a weekend meeting point. My point is, don't be surprised if you find little enclaves of what the older clubs were in the some of the newer clubs. 20 years has passed now. It could be one of the reasons as to why we somehow in a market where local is more popular (NRL, AFL etc), we still can get 10k members each season based in the CBD.

I will pass this to my kids one day, the same way my father and father in-law did.

agree we wouldn't want conflict for the sake of conflict, it would have to be an informative episode

One really good point I learned, raised by the panellists, is that with NSL clubs , there was no profit. Any money raised was sunk into improving coaching programs to develop youth.

In the AL the panellists suggested that the clubs raised money for shareholders instead - usually to make a profit.

One thing that has not been apparent from the panellists, up until the 36 min mark, is the vast value of the NC and the new coaching system. Unlike many, I was trained in coach education in the old system and the new.

I'd love a chance to have just one go at a G and G podcast using specific examples of our players, mostly 23 and under, using specific players, to describe what they are doing on the pitch, in terms of quantity of quality, that hasn't occurred before in Aus.

I think the GG are over-rated. I'd like a chance to put their era into context, again using specific GG players, where they fell down. Many of the GG are big talkers, and love talking about their own era. Latter day players are a lot more circumspect and modest. They don't talk up their achievements like the GG. Notwithstanding, Brett Emerton, Marco Bresciano, Stan Lazaridis, are pretty circumspect from the GG.

Also, our 2022 Socceroos have had little favourable publicity for finishing 11th in Qatar compared to the GG getting to the last 16 in Germany in 2006.

Others know this a lot better than me, but I think it was easier to get gigs in European clubs for Aussie players 1995 - 2005, than currently. I'm surmising, that UEFA clubs scout more broadly in Africa, Asia, Eastern Europe, South America, possibly North America, to recruit.

Once again though, have really enjoyed the Podcast thus far.

would be wrapped up in 2-3 minutes... what would I talk about for the rest of the hour?
I'm having a lend of you.

Taking the piss!

You could wax lyrical on your new poster body status with the Anarchy forumites who visit G and G, and ones who haven't yet and hear a lot about you, in between their bans.

Mono, do you know Benjamin, a former scout; and Arthur, who was a NPL Club Pres; who both posted on 442?

They are both keen South Melb fans. These were their 442 posting names. I'm not going to use their last names - publicly.

Anyway, Benjamin was a mate of Con Boutsianis. I never saw him play, but have heard incredible stories about his legendary free kick taking for South Melb, from Benjamin, as well as the two panellists waxing lyrical about his dead ball ability on this Podcast.

I've hit the 42 min mark and nothing has been mentioned about that awful figure in Aus football, Tony Labozetta.

He was a figure keeping the game from growing. It was breath of fresh air at the time having Frank Lowy taking over.

Good point about the Real Madrid analogy - and clubs being precluded from national level comps. I thought the NPL Cup and the Aus Cup, with NPL playing against some AL clubs, was great. Aus Cup might have been the best thing Gallop did. It brought/brings the entire football community together.

When NPL clubs play AL clubs in the cup games, the AL clubs are usually in heavy pre-season training, so they have heavy pre-season legs and aren't match - fit. Hence, results are distorted.

If NPL clubs played AL clubs in season proper, with tapering down for home and away season games, it would be rare for NPL clubs to win any games at all. However, there would be the odd upset.

Mike and Pete basically, "almost word for word" have explained pretty much every single post about football I have made on here.... Wouldnt really have that much to add. I would much rather hear from an Aleague fans perspective... perhaps another episode idea guys?
Mono, can you get a word in when you are with Mike and Pete, and they are in full flight?

I'm pretty bad for talking a lot, but these two are another level!

LOL!

Since they are so passionate about football, it is good.

How does the ignore bottom actually work? It blanks out or rolls past such posts? You don't get notified if they post?
You see Ignored Member if they post in threads when looking at the different forums home page.

If someone responds to their posts and quotes them you see, the name, but no content. You can activate it if you want to see a post they make that others have quoted and responded to.

Otherwise every time they post in a thread, you see nothing they post. It is as if they don't exist on G and G FC. I've got two on Ignore, and had a few more. Absolutely no new posters, or any from former 442/IS. Just recidivist trolls - who have their own forum as well, but love trying to troll on here in between their G and G bans.

The G and G B FC Ignore button works better than any other.
