Also a 4th innings, and in this case, a 5th day pitch can at times mean any variable bounce usually brings LBW and bowled into the equation more.
at least if you're stock ball is 4th stump like yadav then the natural variation will attack the stumps, so few of hazelwoods balls attack the stumps which is great for the first 3 innings but he is too easy to hold out on those 4th innings.

We have been 4th innings bunnies for a while. Lyon is best when people attack him and struggles to control favourable conditions (despite being one of the best I've seen on spin unfriendly conditions), starc tires too much, hazelwood bowls too wide which leave cummins to do it all - which he kind of did yesterday

Injured also. WA seem to produce the best bowlers, sadly most are brittle. Going back to Bruce Reid.
do we have a good all rounder replacement for marsh?
Could also go a specialist batter
in sydney could also go a spin all rounder if we have one

Beau Webster is in the squad. Been terrific with bat last two shield seasons, bowls respectable medium pace and off spin and is a whizz slipper. No spring chicken tho.

hazelwood bowls too wide
Not all the time, not when he is smothering blokes with impeccable accuracy. One of the telecasters showed a graphic hankie in the ideal 6- 8m bowling zone and he was the quick that most hit the hankie @6 out of 6 balls. Cummins second @5 of 6. I think Starc came in at @2 of 6.

100% agree on being 4th innings bunnies for a while. We've missed quite a few wins by close draws where we just couldn't close it out....and yesterday the lads pulled one out of the bag for all time!!

I know got a game in a few days but I hope everyone involved really celebrated and revelled in a truly brilliant test win in an amazing spectacle of cricket!

Welcome here @onedaywinners. I too am a tragic. Go back to the 74/75 Ashes when Lillee/Thommo terrorized the Poms.
Watching Lillee and Thommo team in must have been great. I am a 90s kid that grew up more with the likes of the Waughs, McGrath, Warne etc. So blessed as my childhood of following the Australian cricket team was that we almost always won haha

Unless Marsh's fitness is seriously under question then I don't think they can drop him from a winning team, especially when he seems to be such an important bloke around the group.

I would like to see Webster have a go at test level though and as just turned 31 he has two years on the Bison.

Hazelwood is quite tall and when he hits the hankie it is usually 5th stump and going over which is great for days 1-4

My dad was also a tragic and took us kids to the SCG. I was only an ankle biter so dont remember much except what dad told me later. When I was older DK became my hero, along with thousands of others. I recall chanting Lillee, Lillee in unison with the crowd as he pounded into bowl. I also had my own Aussie cricket team scrap book, which I cherished.

I was thinking the same. Means Webster who deserves a crack will miss out. Yes once Green is back he will retain #1 all rounder status, with Hardie likely #2, given his age..

We need to give some young players a chance, a 5th bowler is very important if Lyon isn't getting much out of the pitch.

Marsh is also out of form with the bat, the other alternative is to pick a specialist batsman at 6.

Batting or bowling Marsh hasn't contributed much this series.

For Sydney we need to see if Starc is fit and get an idea of what the pitch is like.

Cooper Connolly from the Perth T20 side might be an option for a wicket favouring spin?

Do we have any other good young spin bowling all rounders, who are solid batsmen?

Maybe head is good enough to hold the fifth bowler spot. Just need to eek out 5 overs an innings

kerry o'keefe raised an issue with konstas forward defense

I haven't seen enough of him to judge. O'keefe says Konstas top hand has an unorthodox grip and his left shoulder is in an unorthodox position. This conspires to take his bat away from his pad
I agree his top hand is in an odd position but not convinced his shoulder is wrong. People confuse unorthodox with bad technique too often imo, there is more than the mcc and most of the best batters have something unorthodox about them

Here is his dismissal

I agree he plays the wrong line, but he also gets beaten for pace and his down swing is too late, which makes it hard to evaluate. I think he just didn't pick up the ball quickly enough so who knows if he plays a better line normally

here is dravid for comparison. I agree there is a smaller gap between bat and pad.

Cooper Connolly for me is an immense talent who very well could bat in the top 6 and provide some very handy spin when needed, although at this stage his batting is definitely his strength.

He has the capacity to be an all format player and at 21 is one of the brightest talents we have in the country.

You're talking my language now grazor!!

Yes no doubt Konstas has a 'weakness' with the ball coming back into his stumps and either disturbing his pegs or hitting his pads, BUT the kid is 19 played one international match and already has a half century opening against one of the best fast bowlers the world has ever seen. He has an abundance of time and resources to adapt and problem solve.

The chat about his shoulder and grip and all that dribble really is just that....dribble from the mouths of tradition and orthodoxy. I do love Skull but who really cares about how he does it.....scoring runs is the only metric.

I've attached a great research study (even just the pictures say a thousand words) of batters back lift and just how many of the greatest bats of all time that didn't follow the text book at all!! The exact same story of the best in the world not following coaching manuals can be seen across many other sports eg tennis, baseball, golf

Attachment was too large so maybe can make some sense of what can see here: https://www.researchgate.net/public...ractice_of_elite_cricketers_follow_the_theory

Poor smith has had people predict his downfall for years. He is now at n age where if he did decline it will just be down to age but his critics will feel vindicated despite him having 10k runs and being the best since Bradman

Genuine slow bowling all rounders remain as scarce as snow in hell in this country. Just look at all the runs we have left in the dressing room by having Nathan Lyon as our top tweaker the last decade plus. Ditto the great Shane Warne, tho he was not as bad with the willow. Ravindra Jadeja and Ravi Ashwin have always contributed with the bat for India. Any others in the modern game that have done the same?
