The Australian Championship Thread

How about "The Semi-Champions League"? Semi professional, half the teams are champions of division and some are not...
In true shitti-ness they can borrow the first half of the UEFA champions league song. The worst part :P

Any rumours about the other clubs apart from what we already know?
Not yet.. Adelaide City has a couple of new sponsors. The word is, and has been for a while, that all 6 x "new" clubs mentioned as being ready to go have had their submission scrutinezed by FA and approved... it is the 500K security bond that is and always was the stikcing point........ there is a small sliver of hope still that 4-6 clubs "ante up" and this goes ahead, still as a champions league> but as a precursor to full h/a for 2026.....

Apparently (I didnt listen I was out) Peter Flop was on 3XY last night and reckons the tournament "name" and schedule will be released in Feb and Nick Galatas claims that the FA wants to keep the "Champions league" format even after a full H&A is implemented for NST - maybe as a sort of "qualifier" for pro rel????

Yeah I always thought they'd want something like this between NST and NPL. The top two from each fed into four groups of four etc. Next year is a trial for both NST clubs and the future NPL CL format I reckon.

Yeah it is looking likely .... Im still not happy with this farce of an end of season NPL on planes... lets just see what happens.

SMH football reporter Vince Rugari joined The Global Game program this evening with Simon Hill and Alex Brosque to talk both Alex Robertson and Christian Volpato as well last week’s NSD developments also prospect of football specific stadium in Brisbane ahead of 2032 Brisbane Olympics.

He may be partisan, but that was a great interview and its really useful to have football journalists

Just thinking about the format of these groups next year. If common sense is employed, the groups mostly draw themselves. We have 8 NST teams, and 8 NPL winners. Surely they would avoid the same federation playing itself where possible.

From the NST, there are 3 VIC and 5 NSW. So we know one of the four groups will have a NSW double-up. The top two slots in the four groups should look like this:

ABCD
VICVICVICNSW
NSWNSWNSWNSW

Then, the 8 NPL winners. The VIC winner won’t double-up in groups A, B or C. They go straight to group D. The remaining top 4 “seeds” get drawn to A, B or C. It doesn’t matter what order because the top two slots from those groups are identical.

ABCD
VICVICVICNSW
NSWNSWNSWNSW
SA1QLD1NSW1VIC1

So, the only part of the draw that matters is “pot 4” so to speak. That is, the winners of NPL TAS, ACT, NNSW, and WA. Which groups would you like to see them enter? If they want to save a bunch of cash, they would put NNSW and ACT in groups C and D which have the NSW double-ups.

Neither of these *cough journalists *cough would have any knowledge of what NST clubs are up too outside of the FA announcements.

yep just talk for the sake of talk but have no idea.
Same applies re Volpato, like as if they have any genuine goss to pass on.
I admired Brosquey as a player but he's doing no diff to many ex players incl the Fox days pundits people dislike, follow your employees agendas no more no less.
Rugari, will I be smashed for using a USA election word used - vermin :)

Broque is just a player, no more no less... A little boring as a personality but hope the guy opens up a bit and has a career in football punditry.

As for Rugari, he made his own bed.... Openly despised by many because of the sheer, needless, disrespect he has shown non-franchise football in Australia...

Poor JJ can't win.. It his fault for not having an NST, and it's his fault for having an NST 😅

I suspect if the nst happens he should be labelled st james

I get the feeling the politics is very difficult
