The Ange at Tottenham Thread

Ipswich lead 2:0. Bentacur is shite and lives off the flag on his profile. No excuses today really. Ipswich just better down that end. Second half should see a reaction. Burgess holding well.

Solanke scores but he's shot into his own hand and it's taken back.

Well done Ipswich. Ange to have some work over international break.

Hope to see Ange and Luongo embrace tomorrow.

There was a little hug between them right before the game started must have felt crazy how far they both have come since 2015. Awesome to see.

Don't know what to say they are so up and down - gods it frustrating to watch EPL teams using those tactics of just slowing down the game whenever they can go down at any sign of injury. Its horrible to watch.

Cam Burgess did really well was very strong in corners/set-pieces.

What do we think he still needs? Another CB? maybe LB? Watching the game back just crazy amount of turnovers.
its a good question what does he need ?
On paper the starting line up looks good vs Ipswich.
Attack is there, not converting enough chances and their GF is right up there with table topping clubs and their GA sure isn't ugly either, same as City and Chelsea for eg.
Therefore I can only consider its positioning and cover, defensive discipline ? when you compare the defensive workrate and prowess of LFC of late its chalk and cheese.
5/6 home game defeats is heavy already thats for sure.
A team near the bottom like Ipswich striving for a win week in week out sooner later it arrives and here it was expect the unexpected.

International breaks don't come at great times depending your last game, considering they have City away next up they have alot of soul searching for City are wounded and at home this could be damn ugly OR Spurs come out fighting and spring a surprise.
For Ange's sake I sure hope so.

Romero just looks disinterested to me....I think he's heads been turned by RM. They need some experience and leadership at the back. Let him go, get a big fee(120m)and look for someone experienced. I would go for Laporte but he's on $500k a week in Saudi even RM said they cant do it lol Maybe Bastoni? I'm not sure.

As I posted on the now defunct forum:

-------------

The most Spurs thing is to snatch 10th from the Jaws of 3rd by losing to relegation contender Ipswitch.

I'm not sure how much Ange's "tactical naivity" comes into it when you can beat City and Villa in the space of a week and then lose to that lot.

One thing is for certain, there are very few clubs these days that are bigger than the player and their agents.

The downing of tools is not a conspiracy theory i'm afraid.

If he lasts that long.......

Following the Ipswich game is the first time I'm feeling Ange's Tottenham job is on shaky ground. The vibe I'm getting with Ange this year is how Erik ten Hag's vibe at Manchester United felt like last season. i.e. not going to be sacked immediately, but it could be sooner than later if things don't turn around soon.

Ever since the final months of his Socceroos tenure, all Aussie fans knew Ange is totally stubborn - and now that is being heard among Tottenham fans. Remember how Ange used to be criticised for play 3 in the back, while the Socceroos were leaking goals. Now, it's Tottenham that are leaking goals.

Perhaps mid tier leagues like J-League and Scottish Premier League are Ange's sweetspot for total aggression football, but it appears now that Premier League requires pragmatism to get the wins that are all that matters.

I don't think you can compare ManU to Spurs.

For all the glitz and glam of the new Stadium and flirting with top 4 for the last decade, Spurs are the bottom of the Big 6 clubs. There's literally daylight between them and ManU, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool & City.

Spurs have done nothing in English football for a generation.

ManU had a generation of winning things and they want to get back to that.

For ManU a Carabao Cup and an FA Cup is not enough.

For Spurs a Carabao Cup and an FA Cup would be a contract extension for Ange and a parade down the High Road.

After their impressive wins over West Ham and Aston Villa at home I thought they will continue their ways against a team that haven’t won a game this season so I was very surprised to see how flat they looked.

It seems to me it’s becoming a coincidence that teams they play midweek look flat during the weekend and if you don’t have the squad depth like Spurs have then you could be in a spot of bother.
They got outplayed by Gala as well in the Europa league so take away a key player or two they look vulnerable.

I’m not sure what’s next for them, Ange stays or not the squad is not the best to compete on both fronts, excluding the tactical issues the team is facing in games that’s the bigger issue for Tottenham at the moment.

Throw in also how wildly inconsistent they are it doesn’t help there squad isn’t strong enough.

Spurs is Spurs right :)
Seriously though in the big picture its the fine margins of late.
Their GF/GA is on the same/close plane from 2nd to 9th places !
Ipswich loss is no diff to LFC losing to Forest earlier this season let alone City dropping games of late, now look at Arsenal.
Shit happens, I get the ongoing pressure Spurs have lacked delivering barring the CL final vs LFC few seasons back.
As I've mentioned its a thin squad, the bench players and youth are not to the standard what LFC/City/Arsenal/Chelsea have though despite this their top 12/13 are good enough its the application hence the talk of inconsistancy.
Brain farts defensively is the way I see it.
