The Ange at Tottenham Thread

We are talking about the club that last won a trophy nearly 20 years ago yeah?!? And then nearly another 10 years before that to find another league cup.

Eddie Howe wouldn't go anywhere near Spurs from Newcastle. If Levy actually put his hand in his pocket in pre-season and gave Ange a full squad to work with I have no doubt he would find success.

I mean if Spurs won Europa this season they should make a bloody statue of him.

Didn’t watch it this morning but wow, how do you lose to AZ Alkmaar at home.

The fans will be spitting venom.

Spurs were poor but Martens clearly knew Ange's system very well... they waited for them all to bomb forward and press and just played a a ball up the striker and were winning the second balls. Probably the systems biggest issue but Ange just doesnt want to solve it lol

That was an awful performance, they finally have a decent squad available and were fresh as well. If they can't turn it around in the 2nd leg, he couldn't possibly survive after that.

mind you its was a OG fellas.
Had enough possesion.
Without Solanke they have blanks, Son has gone so off this season its very disappointing for he's the leader naturally.
Last season he finished with 17 goals and 10 assists in the league.
To date just 6 goals from 24 appearances and don't tell me he's old @ Salahs/VVD and other veterans who are still delivering.
This is piling the pressure on, then Johnson isn't stepping up with another season under his belt.
Anyway it hurts to see Ange going to fall no doubt about it in the end.

It wasn't a good performance and I agree it can't be forgotten that they only lost due to an OG.

For me it was just the lack of sharpness that was the biggest disappointment. They still defended reasonably well and if they had the required sharpness might have nicked one.

Fair to say if they turn up like that in the second leg they will go limping out of the competition and Ange's contract might limp away too.

why is anybody surprised?

most coaches, if not all have a grounding in much better standard leagues prior to getting a job in the Premier League than Ange has.

Ange has come through Australia which doesn't even count as professional level football if we're serious, Japan which is tactically naïve and Scotland which only has 1 decent club and that was the one he coached at.

His team is just absolute trash in my opinion the defense is alright and there are some youngsters that will be good enough in maybe 2-3 seasons but just not enough top 4 level players in the team.

That is true in the sense that Spurs have preferred to extend the contract of fading stars whilst topping up the squad with potential rather than purchasing ready made prime players (25-27 yo’s) because Levy is a tight ass.

However, Nuno has shown at Forrest that you just need to do the best with what you have and what Spurs has is better than 13th (yes I know injuries, but they took bad form with them into the new season).

Ange has struggled to profile the right players to play his football. He’s shoehorned so many wrong-fits into positions of weakness that the team has just imploded.

I’d argue if they aren’t in a worse state than when Conte left they are just as bad.

Some of the tactics are just baffling. He bought Johnson who has no 1v1 ability, he has Tel as a Solanke replacement who can’t play with his back to goal, he’s failed to address the weakness in MF, Porro/Udogie are dogshit defenders, he often has Maddison drop deep where he’s wasted, plays Kulu on the wing when he’s an 8, has Son playing too wide where he’s ineffective rather than playing more inside and off the shoulder.

I could go on…how is he not seeing this? Is he really just there to have a good time and collect his healthy severance pay. I fail to believe a coach whose been in the business 25+ years doesn’t know this.

Romero tried to give away 3 goals in the first 5 minutes. They arent even entertaining anymore, every player looks technically shocking, the passing is atrocious, without Vicario Bournemouth score 5-6.

I suspect AZ will knock them out Friday morning. Ange will see out last 10 games but surely its over for him.

There’s such an inevitability about Spurs and Ange, you can just see it playing itself out in real time.

I think in his mind, Ange knows what’s coming.

yep that he does......
The horse has pretty much bolted sadly for him.
The injuries set them way back long ago and a sub standard bench at this level.

Time is ticking for Ange, If he loses to AZ this week, i think he is done.

Ange has never worked with a mentor. Never worked as an assistant at a club with a manager with pedigree. He played under Puskas but he was no great manager... so his entire grounding has come from working in the NSL and later the Aussie system under the KNVB rejects that held sway during the 2000's. He talks a big game and has a savvy personal career manager but at the end of the day he's just a mediocre coach with one plan, which was figured out by PL managers within 6 months.

You've got to give it to him though, not many mediocre managers would have bounced back from public humiliation all those years ago to get to where he is now.

Aside from Pochetino (who still won nothing) every manager at Spurs has looked mediocre, and these are coaches with far higher pedigree than Ange, and they had Kane/Son in their primes.
