The Melbourne Victory Thread

Why do you say that?

A - there probably won't be a first division to go to or at least no money in it
B - If arguably the country's best supported and historically well-managed club (at the top level - last few years dicey granted) can't make a fist of it, any investors or those stumping up the cash for NST will be second-guessing
C - I reckon the APL would rather save their bacon (MV) then focus on NST

A - The NSt will BE the frist divison :P
B- fair call, the funds needed at this more realsitic level may be alot more achievable though
C-APL can do whatever they want... FA is pushing ahead with NST and its THEIR support thats needed.

I get your point overall but I also dont think the FA will allow Australia to NOT have a national divison of some sort.. IF the APL folds and an NST exists to "step up" to fill the demand so much the better for "old soccer" :)

How the hell could they defend the fans!! They ran on the pitch and one assaulted a player

Geez, haven't we been through this before? 100 dickheads ran onto the pitch. that means 99.9% of us did nothing wrong that day.

Football Australia chose to punish the fans collectively by bringing in onerous rules that was a disincentive for us to attend games. Most of us chose to stay at home for the rest of the season (from memory I think I attended 2 more games).

Melbourne Victory chose to accept the sanctions and didn’t appeal. By not appealing, the club threw 99.9% of the fanbase under the bus.

I don’t think followers of the AL (who don’t support MV) truly understand the anger of the fan base at the time. There are inaugural members who abandoned their membership and haven’t returned. I dumped my membership too (only to renew at a downgraded level after the Sydney GF was cancelled).

You only need to look at this years lower than expected crowd numbers at 2 home games to realise there is still a level of anger and resentment. I know we have over 20,000 members yet again, but I wonder how many of them are 3 and 8 game members instead of the full 13 games?

Caroline Carnegie is a bloody good administrator, but I do feel the club has made no legitimate effort to mend bridges. Signing the former coach of a rival probably doesn’t help either if we’re honest.

Yeah, tbh I don't thing FA would let MV go down - which can be good and shit depending on how you look at it,

If the NST became the main league, I'd just have to wait a few decades until Fitzy or Northcote can make it lol

all bullshit aside, It wouldnt surprise me to see Fitzroy (or White Eagles) make a move to "climb" to the top....

I dont know that FA really cares about Victory or any of the APL clubs for that matter anymore - case in point the state fed academies... could be getting ready for a reset?

I highly doubt the Victory will be done they are too big of a club to fall under, it just shows the challenges the clubs have financially and what they need to do to be sustainable.

Honestly rivalry aside. I see where you're coming from and the day 1 members but victory was a joke the league was a joke they had to do damage control and weed out the thugs really. Probably could of done things better but they needed to fix it up like what happened could of been worse

I think what is lost in all of the sanctions is that it was not our home game and MVFC were not responsible for who entered the stadium on the day.

I have seen people I know who are banned at many games I have been to (home and interstate). At what point do the authorities accept an element of responsibility instead of looking for an easy target as a scapegoat?

From the AAMI Park website:
  • Patrons are advised that the Stadium and M&OP Precinct is fitted with electronic surveillance (including facial recognition technology) and patrons may be filmed in any area of the Stadium and/or M&OP Precinct.

Where was the facial recognition technology on that day of all days?

Maybe ask melb city guy to stop mentioning it in first place instead of just me
I'm done with it. I really hope victory can sort this finance stuff out of it helps you have three or four players that should get sold in July

Don't want to sound too arrogant but if MV is gone, you'd imagine that's curtains for the a-league
who cares. Football in this country has been divided for decades, and it continues to be.

nothing would be sweeter than seeing a club like Melbourne Victory Fold.

Of course it continues to be. Look at your second line. One could take from this that you prefer to see MV fold then for say, Syndey Craysha be in the top league

Actually, the totally opposite.
i was a bit excited about the prospect of a NSD when it was first announced, and now the way it's been handled and watered down, I don't really want a bar of it.
I rather be in the NPL, than be $10mill in debt, and cease to exist.
