So it won't fix anything in the short term, not the somewhat long term, so why rush to get it started before the foundation is set up securely?Correct, and unfortunately for them it becomes a very difficult choice. It sucks, but that's the way it is. In order for wages to increase, player value needs to increase. In order for player value to increase, players need to be playing (not sitting on the bench) at the highest possible competitive level. In order for that to happen, more playing opportunities at higher levels need to be created.
Playing pool is not my only concern, but to stick to the question, I have nothing against a NST. I think it would be good. I just think we are trying to paper some very real cracks in our football system and hoping people won't notice because we can placate themHey Zimbos, so playing pool aside, Im curious to know if you have any other objections to a 14-16 club full home and away NST forming in the next 2 years with promotion and relegation down to federation NPLs, and then with some luck to all state leagues below it?
Rush? The NST has been brewing for at least a decade now, probably more. It's been one of the slowest progressing things in Australian football, second only to WU's shovel-ready stadium. What foundation? Australian clubs all over the country have been screaming for a second division. One of the only reason the NST has any traction at all is because 30 fed up clubs got together, formed a group, all chipped in thousands of dollars, invested time to write a proposal and applied pressure to FA. Are these clubs not part of the foundation? So it won't fix anything in the short term, not the somewhat long term, so why rush to get it started before the foundation is set up securely?
You can't be serious, 30 games plus finals, is too long ? Say it takes 34 weeks, that is still an 18 week off season. Off season should be 10 weeks, four weeks holiday and 6 weeks pre season, inc friendlies.
I’m genuinely curious as to why you are more concerned about crowd figures than player development.Lets think about this logically for a moment.
Off season in Australia should absolutely not be 10 weeks. There is no where near the interest in the A-league to play it over a 42 week period of the year. You will get crowds of 500 people to matches.
Are you saying they should still start in October?
Im genuinely curious as to how you think this would work

Why will it die?Theres needs to be a league for there to be player development, Doesnt there?
The league will die if you extend it further. 100%
Why will it die?
Are you an accountant, maybe? It costs some clubs 50k or more to open the gates to the stadiums they play in. its 80k for Glory. What attendance figure do they need to hit to make money on a home game at HBF park?
The clubs don't want to extend the season. There is no room for it in the calendar in Australia.
Are you an accountant, maybe?![]()
by a "lot of people" lets be clear here, you are ONLY talking about the APL and the "investors" into franchises....Nope, i just know a lot about the league, and who is running it.
Its about dollars and cents to a lot of people.

The professional league in this country has had twenty years to get its sh*t together and it’s still the same old story.Nope, i just know a lot about the league, and who is running it.

Damn straight.... 20 years FFS ....The professional league in this country has had twenty years to get its sh*t together and it’s still the same old story.
Well there are people in the game who want progression, the APL can stay in it’s little bubble.

And as much as I don't like them you CAN'T begrudge them that attitude. They were sold a "product" that would make them a return on their investment, its only fair they conduct their private business the way the seem fit... We all just have to realise (like the MLS ) that Aleague is NOT interested in the same things many of us are.... national temas, health of our standings as a football nation, playing pools ect ect are all just numbers on a profit and loss statement.Good point, yes i am.
Small minded thinking. If you want to be like the rest of the world, then play as many weeks as them.Lets think about this logically for a moment.

Fuck you speak some amount of shite.... and to make even more of you upset.... to put it mildly, if the APL could get the same revenue(or better) than they do now and NOT have to play any football to do so .... they WOULD.... Get angry as much as you like, you all know its true.
That’s why we need those people at club level who are willing to invest in football for football’s sake.... and to make even more of you upset.... to put it mildly, if the APL could get the same revenue(or better) than they do now and NOT have to play any football to do so .... they WOULD....
