Green & Gold FC Podcast #3 – SMFC Mike & Pete

Guus, many of us wish death to the Aleagues.... (not the clubs themselves but the standalone league structure and the franchise agreement system) how is that losing credibility to state what your beliefs are? Do people on here that repeat ad nauseam that the NSL had to die because the effnik riots on the fields are so much more unpalatable than manistream riots off them lose all credibility?
Yeah but we don't give those people airtime. While it was great to hear him talk the talk on the pod, he fails to walk the walk online.

Why not just wish for pro/rel instead of death to the league? The franchises are there until 2034 unless, with any luck, the NST clubs push high and quash any excuses against pro/rel. Even with pro/rel, those APL clubs would probably still be franchises, and it will still be called A-League.

APL clubs can be franchises and member fed club won't, we can have the best of both worlds, whatever works. "Death to A-Leagues" when you're probably going to be part of within a decade is cutting off one's nose to spite one's face.

It doesnt really matter what it is called ... I honestly dont see a situation were the franchises will allow themselves to be relegated.. they have stated as much claiming they wont survive...
What we may or may not be part of in a decade will have NOTHING to do with the current Aleagues. I applaud your wish for "all the tribes to get along" but its is simply not going to happen...

I've heard LOTS of people say/write on forums that our loss to Iran in 97 was a blessing in disguise because had we qualified for France 98 the nsl may have survived.

It goes both ways and its just as extreme on the other scale. Calling out one of our most heartbreaking national team moments as a blessing is wild.

Well that's death to the A-Leagues covered 😅 Now what's his gripe about marketing the Matildas?

Well mate, he tweeted this out and you haven't posted it yet? Slacking at your job mate

@HappyGuus

Really appreciate the response, Mike. Yeah sign up here, it's certainly more communal in here.

I respect the pains of the past, I get it. I've seen the AFL destroy the VFL, once glorious clubs relegated to god knows where. But if we blew up the league today, I think 90% of it would be rebuilt the same tomorrow. The new league would be made up of the strongest clubs, nearly all from the A-League and franchises. I can't see it being better than just waiting for pro/rel and without the added pain of killing anything off. I agree with you about the WU and Bulls expansions, the only saving grace for WU is finishing that stadium! Bulls seem doomed.

Clubs and pro/rel aside, what kind of league structure can we have that would be more successful? I admit that I know little about board structures and voting etc. This is why you should sign up here and get us into the nitty-gritty 👍🏻

I refuse to listen to anything those anti-AL wafflers have to say.

The clown constantly shits on the league yet believes his club has a divine right to be in it.

South Melbourne can die in a fire for all I care.

There is always those who see things differently, some more than others, doesn't mean you tar the big picture.
We need the NPL to grow and prosper - countless Jnrs/development the list goes on, it is the core/backbone of our game.

IMO the podcast both came across fine - I have no care what else is said in the SM world for lets face it its full of BS thankfully I don't follow any.
