Green & Gold FC Podcast #3 – SMFC Mike & Pete

Never had an NSL team as none of the NSL teams in Sydney appealed to me but whatever helps you sleep at night mate.
What would help me sleep is for these ridiculous hot nights to stop and for the arsehole that is supposed to come and repair my bedroom A/C comes out when he promises to.

As for who or what you watch, good luck to you, I dont care... If you wish for my club to die because of comments from someone on the internet that's your prerogative I suppose.... 7 decades nearly and still going strong. Dont know about divine right to compete in the Aleague (I thought only plastic, foreign owned franchises had that?) but Hellas and all the real clubs in Australia are finally getting their act together and building a true football pyramid for all.... The haters can stay away thanks.

You keep going on about plastic franchises yet you want your club to be in said league because of the past.

The NSL died the death it did because no one cared less about it, was rife with political infighting, corruption and other issues.

The NSD won't last 2 years max.

All it takes is for another Sydney Croatia shitstorm like the bullshit at the Australia Cup Final a couple of years ago to kill it dead then and there.

The NSL died the death it did because no one cared less about it, was rife with political infighting, corruption and other issues. - and the Aleague isn't? hahah sure no worries champ, DT says hi.

The NSD won't last 2 years max. - at least say 3 years max like a true bitter.

All it takes is for another Sydney Croatia shitstorm like the bullshit at the Australia Cup Final a couple of years ago to kill it dead then and there. It didnt kill the Australia Cup, so why would it be different now?

Stop projecting mate. You're the NSL bitter who keeps harping on about plastic franchises.

90% of the A-League have been there for 20 years since Day 1 so the plastic franchise tag is a little silly now.

Simple fact is the NSL died as most of the clubs were monocultural ethnic social clubs that made the rest of the country feel like they weren't welcome, the league was flat broke, had no TV deal (ended up on SBS in the end who hardly anybody watched bar the EPL highlights on a Monday night and some B grade porno from Eastern Europe), Soccer Australia itself was flat broke due to corruption and financial mismanagement and had to go cap in hand to Canberra every year just to keep the lights on.

It's ok to romanticise about the past but sometimes you need to wake up to reality.

I refuse to listen to anything those anti-AL wafflers have to say.

The clown constantly shits on the league yet believes his club has a divine right to be in it.

South Melbourne can die in a fire for all I care.
As someone who before meeting these guys and speaking to them also thought that they were massive pricks, I would definitely recommend having a listen to what they have to say.

Can definitely say that I have a newfound respect and understanding for their position on things regarding the current state of Australian football.

Mike and Pete basically, "almost word for word" have explained pretty much every single post about football I have made on here.... Wouldnt really have that much to add. I would much rather hear from an Aleague fans perspective... perhaps another episode idea guys?

BTW Alex, fascinated to hear about the perception of Glory as "english".... probably the most surprising thing on here for me... again bravo... I catn find an emogi but take this as a standing ovation ...... 🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤷‍♂️

I have to say well done to Alex and Grahame (and Pasquali) for the great listen.. Was very well put together and fairly inciteful. Obviosuly it echos my sentiments so not suprisign that I enjoyed.... Clubs, CLub, club club and ... club its the most important fundamental building block in getting us to have the footballing culture and outcomes we all want....
Mostly just the fact that a large portion of the club chants, culture, and overall supporter base is geared towards English fans or people that at least regularly watch English football.

Perth also don't really do many community events outside of areas that are mostly white English.

Nothing wrong with that obviously I just feel like it's a missed opportunity for the club to expand into new markets, there's plenty of people in WA that openly hate the Perth Glory because of how they're perceived to treat NPL clubs by poaching players, I feel tapping into the communities of these migrant based NPL clubs will help fix a lot of issues and along with it likely help the club grow as a whole.

Good insight from a WA/Perth perspective as I suspected as well in a post I made way back.
There is plenty to tap into to help grow the local clubs and above.
We're falling into this over done rhetoric about "ethnics" - for christ sake 99% are aussie in the first place.
There is nothing wrong with people here having ethnic blood in their viens, born here or not but it has been used against them/us due to the directive set why the game failed before.
GTFO its far more complicated than just that.

Shark, its also very silly wishing the NSD does not last/succeed and quoting above the same same response thats been said millions of times.
The infighting from either side doesn't achieve much.
Time to move on as well.

I'm extremely skeptical of the NSD.

It's pretty much full of the same clubs that hamstrung the old NSL in the first place.

Besides those over 50-60 nobody even turns up to NPL games week in week out and yet these clubs think they can compete in an NSD, come on its bullshit.

Plus who is going to fund it and who is going to broadcast it?

We can barely hold on to the top flight yet want a second division?

Think the game would be far better served to be improving the A-League than appeasing those who can't let go of the past.

What does being 20 years old change about being a franchise??? The local McDonalds has been here for 40 years and is STILL a plastic franchise.... and always will be.

Own your identity, dont hide behind it.

Mate, its obvious you hate the A-League why should your club be in it when its obvious most of your fanbase hates it?

Wasnt that a beautiful night, 16,000 strong, with 95% supporting Sydney Croatia.

Macarthur Bulls is dead, before it's even started.

why do you give a fuck? your club is not involved....

Anyone with a brain knows FA stuffed up giving Macarthur an AL licence.

I've been saying since they got the nod that if they had to bring in another NSW club it should've been Wollongong. Canberra, Wollongong and a second Brisbane team is a must.

Back on topic, still think the both of them are wafflers but they had a few valid points.

Doing Nazis salutes
Yep and Ustase chants.

If these bellends went back to Croatia and pulled that off they'd be told where to go.

They have this old fashioned mentality from that period when those countries moved on a long time ago.

Josip Simunic did the same salute a decade or so ago and got rightfully pilloried for it.
